Ideas needed to replace my chocolate and sweet cravings. I tend to crave sweet things late in the day. Any fruit or veggy ideas? If I have healthy things around I may do better. I gained 2 lbs and want to nip this in the bud. What works for you?
My go to snacks are:
Mini Babybel Light Cheese
Carrot sticks
Celery Sticks - I use a veggie peeler to remove the strings
Cucumber
Cherry tomatoes
Fresh fruit - Strawberries or watermelon in summer, Mandarins, pineapple, grapes
Rice crackers - we have some really good ones in NZ that don't taste like cardboard.
A few pieces of dried fruit - apricots, prunes but be careful these are loaded with sugar albeit natural sugar
1/2 protein bar - again we have a great brand here that is low in sugar and fat but gives a good blat of protein and they taste good too. I have seen a "recipe" for cookies made out of protein bars which are quite good. Basically you cut the bar into eighths and then bake in the oven for a short while. I think the brand is Quest.
I feel your pain, I am always craving sweet, especially at night. Often a protein bar does the trick. I'm doing Weight Watchers and find the ones lowest in "points" as they seem to range from 4 to 12 or something like that. I get the Costco brand.
Last night I was home alone and actually considered driving to McDonalds for an ice cream cone. I didn't. But I thought about it.
I do snack on fruit, but sometimes that just doesn't cut it.
I like the 45 calories (smaller version) Yasso frozen yogurt bars ,the chocolate fudge is yummy. Babybel with mustard dipping sauce, I find the spicy snacks help alleviate the sweet tooth, 4 caramel mini rice cakes w/pb & jelly sf, half an apple, and nuts, I like the mixed nuts unsalted. Sometimes this works, sometimes not. I also will have a Nonni biscotti 90 calories w/coffee, but that's a rarity as it sets me on a tangent.
Lately, I like the small cuties oranges and bought sf chocolate chips and take a few of them with the orange, sounds weird but it's sour/sweet and tasty...lol... I have developed weird tastes
Snacking is a real problem and one I have to be mindful of on almost a daily basis. Sometimes I crave something and if I sit long enough or distract myself, it goes away but now that it's winter and going outside at night is uncomfortable; I force myself to fall asleep even if it's only 9:00 PM, not liking this weather and Florida is looking better and better!
A friend recently introduced me to "fried greens", which are basically leafy vegetables coated with a light batter before frying them until they become crisp. They are delicious!
Hi guys
