    Default 1 year surgiversary

As of October 18th it’s officially been 1 year since I had surgery. The year has flown by. I’ve lost 118 pounds. 264 to 146. I’m 5’9 so that pretty small for me. I thought my goal weight was unrealistic because I read most people lose about 70%, but I’m 4 pounds under it. Weight loss obviously has dramatically slowed down, but I’m still loosing. My doctor told me stop losing weight as if I control it. Despite the infection I had after surgery and the complications I’ve had since I had to have my gallbladder removed....I’m still so very happy. I don’t think about food all time like I did after surgery. I feel normal.

The only odd thing I’ve noticed is with clothes sizes. I haven’t been this thin in maybe 9 years. I used to weigh 10-15 pounds less but wore bigger sizes. I think vanity sizing might be why. Even when I was underweight as a teenager I was a juniors size 9. Now I’m a juniors 5 and can squeeze my extra skin into my daughters size 3s. Just odd. I have no butt now. Flat as a sheet of paper so maybe that’s why.

I no longer have sleep apnea. My blood pressure is perfect. My knee that I hurt long ago doesn’t ache all the time. I used to get chronic UTIs every 2-3 months and I haven’t had one since January.

I did develop really bad nummular eczema for the first time in my life. I’m not sure if it’s possibly related or triggered by the sleeve or the gallbladder removal?

Well that’s all I got. I wish I had before pictures to post with an after...but when I was super heavy I hid from cameras like the plague.

HI , well done on you have done fantastically. I agree with you, I think sizing is now vanity sizing unless you buy designer and then its very small. Feeling fit and healthy is the greatest feeling. I too hated the camera but I do have photos of myself and now when I look at them I can't recognize myself and wonder how I let myself get that big. I am 18 months out and so far I have managed to keep a steady weight, I just hope I don't have any regain. Keep going and well done again.

My surgery was 6 years ago and I can tell you life just keeps getting better! Sorry about your complications, but it sounds like you're doing great now.

The sizes are weird. Clothes that fit at my goal weight of 140 five years ago were a little tight at the exact weight three years later. It's like my body shifted. So I had to lose 10 more pounds to fit in my clothes. Must be gravity! Not to mention women's sizes make no sense. You're right, the more expensive the clothes the smaller I can wear. Like J Crew or Ann Taylor I can wear a 6, and in other things a 10. Typically an 8. I am in no way skinny, and never had the problem of continuing to lose. I have to really work on maintaining.

I either kept out of photos or hid behind a group. So I have very few "before" photos.

So happy for your great first year!!

Congratulations on your success! Sizing is crazy. In the last month, I've bought a size 10 and size 8 pants. It is so crazy! You literally have to try things on--can't go by the numerical size!

Congratulations on a job well done! You have an amazing success story, even with a few complications, you persevered. It's great to not only look healthy again, but to actually feel healthy. I had the same problems...sleep apnea, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc. Everything has cleared up for me as well.

Again, congratulations and continued success to you.

Congratulations on your surgiversary - you have done so well.

Agree clothes sizing is weird. I'm typically a sz10 (NZ) but bought a Winter jacket and it was an extra small.....I've not and never will be extra small - but it did wonders for my confidence :-)

Congratulations, this is just what I was hoping to hear about the first year past surgery. Are you happy you did it? I would love to pick your brain for tips about getting to the same place.

Hooray for marking the day! I passed 2 years, and am so ready to continue feeling good into my (oh goodness) as I head towards the 70's! Hard to imagine I will be 68 next spring, but my health is better than it was in my 50's!
    [I]HW: 240 lbs SW: 199 lbs GW: 140 lbs

    1 MO = 167.0 2 MO = 156.4 3 MO = 148.4 4 MO = 140.6
    5 M) = 136.0 6 MO = 130.0
    1 YR = 122.0 2 YR = 140.00 2.5 YR = 139
Happy with my weight; happy with my size; over-the-moon with my health!
