    Default 4.5 Years Out...

Life has been busy for me with ups, downs and new adventures. Therefore, I have not posted on these forums as frequently as I once did.

I was sleeved in April 2015, so I am 4.5 years out. I'm pleased to say I've maintained my weight loss. I also took the plunge and opened a small healthcare trade school with my best friend, who was also sleeved one year after me.

I've attached a picture of me taken two days ago during a stroll at a local park.

Feel free to ask any questions.

The trade school has several allied healthcare programs: nursing assistant (CNA), medication aide, phlebotomy technician, and medical assistant. We also do CPR classes. The website link is below:

Nice progress. I wanna know more about how much you can eat, how fast you eat, do you still feel warmth at stomach when drinking alcohol ? What changed between years and years ? Can u eat like normal humans ? Because i wanna be able to eat my breakfast asap at mornings and rush to the public transport xd

I had surgery 6 years ago and totally eat like a normal human! I can't eat as much, but that's the good part. I can eat fast (typically do), but try to slow down to feel full quicker. Over the years I can eat more. For example, I used to only eat one piece of a small pizza, now I eat two. What does that mean? That means it's easier to gain now, compared to early on when I could hardly eat anything. I have to be super mindful of my eating and always exercise in order to maintain. I do of course stick to the protein first, then veggie rule as much as possible. This is my new life, and it's amazing.

I did quit drinking alcohol in May. I was having 2 drinks a night and realized I didn't need those extra calories. There is no way you will ever be able to handle alcohol like a person who hasn't had surgery, it hits you much harder. If you can limit yourself to one drink occasionally, you will probably have no problems.

I am currently maintaining 10 pounds below my original goal weight. I track with Weight Watchers, works for me. Everyone who maintains does it differently, but I think for most of us it does take work. No magic cure to obesity, but the sleeve is a great help! Good luck to you.

I can eat a normal, full-sized meal these days. Since I can eat so much more, I still stick to high-protein options and attempt to watch my carb intake loosely.

I do not eat breakfast on most days. I think skipping a meal is one of the reasons I've been able to maintain. If you were to observe me dining at a restaurant, you wouldn't know I've been sleeved.

I agree with Sharon -- it is easy to begin to over eat as you tolerate more. I make myself eat more slowly than I used to (okay, I raised 6 kids, worked full time and had a 45 mile commute one way to work so very "hurried" in life). I'm retired, and can set my own pace and schedule most days.

BUT on days that are full (like holidays, family gatherings, social responsibilities, volunteering, travel, classes) I almost always have an eating plan for that period of time. If we go to a family event, I always ask what I can bring and then bring something that's okay to eat. (My lovely son in law always wants to fix me something special, but he's a great cook and can accommadte). Going out in a group to eat, I try to check the restaurant early, but if I can't I look at appetizers, or what I would want to take home for another meal, or that my husband might enjoy. I get the box upfront and just remove the food from view. No one pays attention, but then again, I think we overestimate how much people care about what someone else is doing!

I do eat slowly or I get "toad froth". And I find I eat way less most of the time. Don't ask about having cookies in my house. It is not a happy thing....and yet they are in my refrigerator even as we speak!

Just plan your life a bit and its pretty easy.
