    Default Fell off the wagon

The past two weeks have been a whirlwind of activities. My husband's daughter and grandbaby came into town for a week from Iowa. We did a princess party with the granddaughter, Paw Patrol with one grandson, and Baby Shark live with all three of the grandbabies. My youngest baby turned 21, and the whole family drove 3 hours to Auburn where she goes to school to surprise her with brunch. She was soooooo surprised and cried a lot of happy tears. It was also the best brunch I've ever eaten. We went to the beach condo for the weekend. The condo is sitting right on the Alabama/ Florida line right next to the famous Flora-Bama. We partied, and I'm way too old to think I can hang with the twenty somethings and live the next day. Hangovers are rough these days.

All this led to a brutal reality when I stepped on the scale Monday morning. My eyes about popped at of my head at the number. I knew it was going to be high as I nearly suffocated in my jeans and had to take my watch off because it was snug.

So back on the wagon I drug myself kicking and screaming. I miss chips, and I've walked past my mama's amazingly delicious pound cake sitting on my counter for 4 days without so much as allowing a sniff of it. I've done well, and I'm proud. I mean, it's only day four, but you guys know how much I love my junkfood. It's rough, but I'm determined... and starving!

But do you guys gain it as fast as me? I can put on 4 lbs in a day. I'll tell you, I was scared this time. I just haven't felt as motivated, and was worried I wouldn't be able to get the pounds off. When my jeans nearly cut me in two, I knew I had to get motivated or I'd be really really sad. I also can't get lower than 115 anymore . It's not that I want to other than just to see if I can. I'm most comfortable at the 115 - 118 range, and my body seems to like 117 the best.

But look how fast I gain. This picture was in my Facebook memories today. That was only a year before I had WLS. I was a size 8. It scares me how fast I can put it on and especially knowing how much I've craved junk since the surgery. I wasn't a junkfood junkie before.

But how great is it that all of us on this thread are so far out and still making it work. Yay for us!

Sometimes you just have to have a bit of fun - then you have to get back to reality.
Good on you for getting back on the wagon quickly.
You will be back to your happy weight before you know it. :-)

For me, it seems like I have these periods where I just completely lose focus and fall off the horse AND the wagon. For me, if I know that I'm going to be in a situation I make a decision, either I am going to eat what I want and get back on track the next day, or I'm going to stay on track. You had your fun and then you got back on track. I think recognizing that you are not eating like you normally do, and then getting back on track is all a part of maintenance. To answer your question, I do gain fairly quickly, but if I go back to eating like I should, it doesn't take long for it to come off.

Katrina, yes thinking we can hang with our kids is an eye-opener! The good news is when they start to hit their 40's (Lordy am I old) they slow down too!
Kudos for getting back on the program.

YES I can gain that quickly. I suspect it may be any sort of processed sugar, in conjunction with the sugars in alcohol. At least in my case, I'm pretty sure it's that, so I can have a bit of dessert, or have wine or something. But not both unless I want to have that super rapid gain and "bloat". Not that you were bloated, but mine just goes right to where the jeans need to be.

Congrats on being back on track!

Thanks for sharing your reality Katrina. Glad to see you had fun, but getting back on track. I also appreciate your statistics. I had my 4 month visit at bariatric office with the nurse practitioner yesterday. Like month two, she suggested a goal of 140 pounds and like month two I reminded her that I'm only 5'3 and 140 is the very top end of "healthy". I explained (again) that I'd like to have some wiggle room and will re-evaluate when I'm at 135. I can't imagine being 117, but then we're all different. Good for you!

I dont really feel like we get to choose our goal weight necessarily. I think our bodies all choose where they want to go. I had it in my head that I wanted to be 130, never imagined I could go lower. My body had different plans. It took me down to 102, and I looked rough, all bones. I was actually kind of worried. Then suddenly in April of 2017, 2.5 years out from surgery, I started gaining despite nothing changing in my habits. (Except some steroid shots and I quit smoking) Then I started to worry the gain wouldn't stop. I went from 102 on April 1 to 117 by August. Then it just stopped. I've been maintaining around this same weight ever since.
