    Default Disappointing initial weight loss

    Hello everyone,
It’s 10 days post op for me and I only lost 3.6 kg(7.9 pounds) so far. I can’t help but feel very disappointed as it seems very low to me. I eat 400-500 calories a day and only eat protein foods such as protein soups and Greek yogurt. I don’t understand how one can’t loose at a faster rate at such low calories. It seems like my body is designed to retain weight and resists anything that’s thrown at it to loose weight.
    Any advice is greatly appreciated

    Low??
    Ten days->7,9 lbs, 100 days->79 lbs....?
Patience, slow and steady wins the race.
It has only been ten days, your body is still recovering from this major surgery.
It is even possible you will come to a stall in a week.
Don't panic, follow the rules and you will be great!

O, and get rid of that scale!
Really, hide it and don't step on it till after 4 weeks!
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

Yes, but I know the weight loss will be much slower later on so I thought a speedy start would have been good. So many people loose 15-20 lbs. It has always been very hard for me to loose weight so I shouldn’t be surprised. I already have my stall by the way, I lost the 7.7 lbs in the first five days and the last five days not at all. I must be this forums earliest staller!

You've had weight loss surgery. You will be losing weight at a totally different rate than if you were on a diet. Give your body time to figure out what in the heck is going on. The weight is going to come off--don't worry. In a few weeks you will hit a stall when you won't lose anything for a few days. Just continue to follow the process and do what your bariatric team tells you to do. Stay off the scale as much as you can.

Congratulations on your surgery and I'm thrilled everything went well. We all can be impatient and expect the pounds to come off immediately. That doesn't happen, but they DO come off especially if you are following your water intake and protein requirements. Exercise in some form is key in my opinion and I hope you are walking as much as possible.

I agree with posters who say hide the scale and only weight once a week for awhile. You're body is going through a complete readjust and there will days you might not move the scale, but then out of nowhere you'll have dropped 3 or 4 lbs. Everyone loses differently, and try to remember that we didn't get obese overnight either. Slow and steady wins the race.

Be positive. You are losing weight! Your body is confused at first, soon the weight will fall off. If it's bringing you down, just hide your scale for a month.

Seriously, positivity is how I got to goal. No whining about the little things. Now if you have some major complications, feel free to whine.

Now is the time to get super excited. You are on your way to being a healthy, regular sized person. And I can tell you that is AMAZING!

As all the above had said - it will happen.
I know that we are all eager for the weight to "drop off" but please remember that you have had major surgery and your body is adjusting to everything that is happening to it. We all loose at different rates too so try not to worry.
Just make sure that you are doing exactly what your surgeon has instructed and all will be well.

As Sraebaer said positivity is the key. So ramp up that positive attitude, sip that water, get that protein in you and start moving (if you haven't already).

I look forward to you coming back in a week or so and telling us that the weight is moving again :-)

Another note, what you are describing happens to almost all of us! And I totally agree, it MAKES NO SENSE. I never understood it either, but it happens. I do remember crying on the phone to my nutritionist, and she told me the same thing.
Just keep doing what you're doing, but get happy about it!

    Hi ,
I also wrote a lengthy email to my nutritionist and she just replied saying that weight loss is not linear and keep on doing what I am doing. She said my diet looks good so she didn’t have any input. I will give an example of what I eat below in a day in case anyone has a suggestion.

Breakfast 170gr 0%fat plain Greek yogurt with added protein powder 16 gr protein 100 calories

Snack apple and strawberry purée 100gr no added sugar 56 calories

Lunch homemade tomato and beef soup 1 cup

Snack low fat cream cheese 1 triangle 25 calories
Snack 2 table spoon low fat humus 50 calories

Dinner chickpea and beef soup home made 1 cup
1 bottle protein water 80 calories 26 gr protein

Thank you all for the encouragement.
