Default BMI of 40 at consult?

I praying my insurance carrier Aetna HMO will cover my surgery. Right now I have a BMI of 39 with no co-morbidities. I have high cholesterol but I don’t believe that counts as one. When does my BMI have to 40+ for insurance to pay? I’ve read some have used ankle weight to ensure their weight stays. Any guidance or ideas would is greatly appreciated. I need this surgery because I’m tired of yo-yo dieting to gain more than I lost when trying.

Each insurance company is different. If you need to weigh a little more wear your heavy winter clothes, jeans, boots, etc. Something heavy in your pockets!! Good luck.

My BMI was 38 at my initial consult. My comorbidity of elevated cholesterol (dyslipidemia) counted as an acceptable comorbid condition, so my insurance company paid for me to be sleeved.
