    Default Barrett’s esophagus

I had an Endoscopy last week as part of my process for the sleeve. I was told I have Barrett’s Esophagus. I’m waiting to hear back from my surgeon but from what I’m reading it doesn’t sound like I can have this surgery now?? Very sad. I’ve been going through this whole process and I’m almost done 😢
Does anyone else have this ?

Sorry you are having issues with your pre-op tests, but at least it's showing your surgeon is serious!

I discussed that option with my surgeon pre-op (if I was positive to Barret, because the TOGD did show a light reflux, but at the end no Barrett), and at the time he said if I was found with Barrett, it would post-pone the surgery for a few weeks. Nothing too bad.

If I was you, I would discuss if the sleeve is really the right surgery for you. Usually Barret does show up after a long time of strong reflux, so if your reflux is bad, the sleeve might not be the best options, international recommendation advise for the gastric bypass when RGO is bad.

    Good luck and take care

Perhaps a RNY will be suggested vs a sleeve. Ask the doctor and do some "google" searching for having a bypass with this condition. Good luck, and don't give up .

I had really bad GERD and my surgeon did the sleeve along with some other type of procedure to fix my hiatal hernia and help with the GERD. I'm sorry, I don't know the name of the procedure he did, but maybe you can find a surgeon who can do both procedures at once like I did. Good luck!

It's called a Nissen sleeve gastrectomy. So far not many studies about it...

    Dear Bella,
I also have Barrett's esophagus and I am waiting for the sleeve surgery. How many months did it take you to recover from it? Please answer
    thanks in advance, Lelina
