Default When will I start to feel normal again?

So today makes a month since my surgery and I am on the soft food diet. My question is, shouldn’t I be starting to feel somewhat normal by now. I have no energy and stay so sleepy. I started B12 injections today. Dr has me taking 1 injection once a month of 1000mcg. But this weakness and tiredness is really starting to get me down. Any help or suggestions?

    Hi Karissasmom
I understand that you want to be up and running but please remember that you have had major surgery and you are probably not getting in as much nutrition as you need at the moment. It will take a bit of time. I'm sure the B12 will help. Also make sure that you are reaching your hydration goals. Dehydration will make you lethargic. Try to get in a bit of exercise even though it is probably the last thing you feel like doing. Walking is great start small and gradually increase the amount that you do. It will all help you feel better.
I promise that you will start to feel much better soon.....and if not you get right back to your Dr to make sure that there is nothing else going on.

As Kiwi said, make sure that you are hitting your hydration goals. Make sure you're drinking your protein shakes and taking your vitamins. You will feel better as you start eating more protein.

    All of the above.
Hang in there, things will get better.
It took me a couple of months...
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

Keep hydrated, and try some gentle fitness, which increases stamina. Gentle chair yoga, walking, water fitness, they're all good low impact fitness. It really does get better and most patients say "they've never had more energy" so get ready for that reaction Continued success!

Are you eating enough? Meeting your protein and fluid goals? Taking all your recommended vitamins? I was back to work after 2 weeks feeling close to normal.

I did nap about that whole first week. Feel better!

Oh my gosh I am with you lady!! I am going to be 4 weeks post OP on Friday and my energy isn't back to normal yet either. I've been hitting all of my protein and water goals faithfully so I spoke to my doctor who, as always, was blunt and asked me if I was crazy. LOL .. I love her. She told me that I have had major surgery and my caloric intake is very low at these stages. She told me that as it builds up my energy will return gradually. She basically told me to pump the breaks a bit mentally and reason with myself on what my body is going through right now. Nothing but massive adjustments!

We will be fine soon enough I am sure. I do notice that I am better when I make sure to get up and have my protein right in the morning then get my water drinking going early.

So you aren't alone but we can do this! Then we're going to crush this world!!!!

While it can vary from person to person, most people have low energy for a few months. The more protein and hydration you get the better. Also a B12 supplement can help. Hang in there. You will get your energy back.
