    Default I am Africa!

We did it! Hubby and I completed the climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro. For 6 days we traversed from West to East to base camp at 15,200 ft. On day 7 we made summit at 19,400. We then dropped down to 18,800 to camp in the crater for the night. Quite the experience in sub zero conditions. Our decent was completed on days 8 & 9. I had a rock fall on day 8 however completed the decent (hobbled!) Hiking through 5 climate zones was amazing as were the views from the crown of Africa. My big toes are still numb, however from after researching coming down that sounds common. Looks like I may lose 2 little toenails.

Surprisingly I came home with a 2 pound weight loss. I knew I lost a lot on the climb, altitude makes you lose your appetite and you have to force yourself eat despite feeling nauseous. But after the climb we did a week long safari where we ate everything in sight, I guess I was hungry. They had the best fruits, veggies, and bread on the planet. Oh and their coffee - so wonderful!

The safari was equally amazing, saw everything from zebras, giraffes, monkeys, hippos, lions, rhinos, gazelles, wart hogs, crocodiles, elephants, cheetahs, and tons more.

At the sign at the top I was crying and wanting to throw up at the same time.

Wow, what an accomplishment, I am in awe! Congratulations on your hike and I'm glad that you made it back without any mishaps (minus the pinkie toe nails lol). I can't even imagine what a beautiful sight that was, but thanks for sharing your pics.

You should be proud of yourself, you are rockin' it!

    OMG Sharon, you did it!!!
    Congratulations!!
I can't imagine how you must feel about that.
No negative side effects from the rock fall?
That really sounds super scary, a rock fall on a mountain slope...
How are your toes doing now, was it frost bite?

I am glad you are back safe and sound.
    How did your hubby do?

I foresee a new avatar in the near future...
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

Nope, I'm fine. Just sore for a while. My boots must have been too small for the 2 day climb down, they said to buy a half size larger than typical, and I didn't do that. So it wasn't cold, just boot size. Not to mention taking 7 days up and 2 down is pretty fast to decend.
Hubby's great, he lost more weight than me!!

Sharon everything sounds simply amazing. And what fabulous pics!! Such awesome memories you made. I hiked Mt. Fuji and that altitude sickness is no joke so I know very well what you mean about the nausea. I was chunky when I did it but not at my fattest. It was Spring but so cold. I can only imagine the cold you felt, though. I was cold looking at your pics. LOL. The joy of being a sleeved person. Thank you so much for sharing the pics. Feel free to post more!!

The safari was actually recovery time. I can't imagine sitting on 3 planes immediately after coming off the mountain, it would have been painful. We were able to sleep in real beds, relax, EAT, and enjoy the animals. (We were so hungry!!)

September is Beaver Lake in Arkansas and then Moab, Utah. Hubby has a one day bike ride and the rest of the time we will hike the national parks, Arches has always been my favorite! We actually bought a tent, because the hotels were so pricy! But a tent with an air mattress, showers, electricity and toilets will beat Kili, so I hope we like it. Plus it shouldn't be as cold.

October is back to Colorado to hike! Then we'll have to fit the grandkids in somewhere. Then ski season!
