    Default trek booked

HI! I thought I would add to the adventures of Dutchie and sraeber. My husband and son have done many expeditions and proper mountain/ex[editions. My husband has also run many ultra marathons and I have always felt I should do something that I can be proud of. Now that I am at a good weight and reasonable fit, I too have decided to do an trek. We are going to Ethiopia to trek in the Simien Mountains. For me this a huge deal, as I am very fussy about showering and loo facilities. I will have to just get on with it and bare and grin it. I am excited but very very nervous. Food will be a problem as usual because not only is the food mainly carbs, but as I do not eat the meat that will be provided, I will have to hope they have eggs and cheese available for my protein and I will take protein bars along. As for my weight, I seem to be fluctuating between 60kg and 62 kg. I find it frustrating, but I think it might be that I have not been exercising as much because of my shoulder problem and I also seem to be in peri menopause/menopause and my hormones seem to be all over the place. I would still like to lose another 4kg. I would like to thank everyone here for giving advice and keeping everyone's spirits up and helping with motivation, I would feel lost without the forum. XX

Sounds like quite the adventure you have planned, congrats! Isn't it amazing how much more active and willing to participate we become after the sleeve surgery and losing the excess pounds? It's been great fun this summer to do some many of the things I used to avoid because I was so heavy I was miserable.

Enjoy your trip and safe travels.

    How exciting!

I admire all y’all mountain trekkers. I’m sure the hygiene inconveniences will be well worth it ;-)

Some of the portable protein I bring along...single serving pouches of tuna, salmon, chicken, turkey. Jerky is another. Protein bars are not recommended by my Bari Team.

    Enjoy your adventure! ;-)

    Wow, Elllie!
    That sounds so great!
What an adventure that will be for you, challenging, but great!
I am sure you will do fine.
Don't worry about your weight, you will get plenty of exercise.
Protein bars sound like a good idea to get your share of protein in.
Not sure about the cheese, will they have fridges everywhere?
Can you take those pouches tuna, salmon, that WANAGL mentioned?
I seem to remember that you will eat fish, if necessary?
I can only buy the tuna pouches, but will stock up on those.
You'll work things out, I'm sure!
    When are you leaving?

Edit: oops, I see protein bars are not recommended, but ICE I think you'll be fine with them.
    If all else fails...
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

i can take tuna along and salmon in cans however i can't take any meat products and I will only have 23kg of luggage allowed, so hopefully it I will have some weight allowance. I will be taking along biltong ( SA beef jerky) homemade and i was not told not to eat any protein bars. I often use them instead of a meal as when I am on the go it is the easiest thing to grab and eat.

HI Simonne, thanks for the encouragement and advice. Hopefully weight allowance (flight) i will take some canned tuna. The trek includes food and they will have cheese with them. I was never told not to have protein bars and in fact I eat therm often as a replacement meal and am fine on them. Sometimes I eat them instead of a meal as I am on the go or after a heavy workout session I need immediate sustenance. Your trip sounds amazing too and I look forward to hearing all about and seeing photos. We are only going at the end of October, so I have time to prepare for it and panic about it, lol.

Whatever works for each of us...

You mentioned having something to be proud of...look how far you’ve come...overcoming shoulder issues, getting below goal, AND prepping for a mountain trek! You’re a star ;-)

I hope you enjoy the excitement and have the adventure of a lifetime!

Please take lots of pictures to share ;-)

That is awesome Ellie! I am sure you are going to do great. When are you going? I hiked to the top of Mount Fuji when I was in Japan. It was when I was moderately heavy. Not my heaviest but definitely not the shape I am in now. It was difficult but the hardest part was the altitude sickness. It will make you dizzy and hard to breathe. But it was an unforgettable experience. I know you will have a great time. Be sure to get lots of pics.
