Default Am I the only one

I was sleeved on 7/25. The first week was great, other than the first day, I had little problems with my liquid in take. I was up and walking we were up to a mile a night. Plus short walks around the house all day. Things were foing great, then I passed out. I was in the shower, so nothing strenuous, texted the Dr. And he wasnt to concerned. Been feeling weak since. 2 days later almost passed out again ( this time I sat down before I could fall down) still drinking what I'm allowed, taking vitamins, calcium. Bp is low afterwards last night was 85/57.
Please tell me I'm not thw only one. Week one I did,t have a doubt about going back to work week 3. Now I'm worried just to walk.

Feeling weak and fainted are signs of dehydration.
I'm surprised your surgeon didn't ask you to come back and examine you, I had some issue at week 3 and my surgeon asked me to come to the hospital right away. I was also having issues to drink, was really nauseous and if I was drinking "too much" it would come back up (plus I had some stomach virus).
May be go see your PCP? You should see a doctor for sure!

Try to sip as much as possible, if needed I was allowed to have juice mixed with water, was easier to drink.
    Take care

I’m sooo sorry you’re experiencing this.

At 3.5 years, I still have episodes of passing out. Not as much as early on, but it still happens.

Have you had all your blood levels checked? I had to double up on iron and add B Complex liquid (sublingual). I also had to increase my fluid intake to a gallon a day.

I have to be careful not to get up abruptly from a reclining position... I have to do it in stages. If I’m feeling shaky at shower time, I opt for the shower chair.

I still wouldn’t go back to pre-sleeved even if I could. To me these are sometimes inconveniences that can be overcome. ;-)

Please call your Dr and insist on being attended to.

I never actually passed out. I would get super dizzy like I was about to and I would just sit down right where I was standing. This wasn’t right away after surgery. It was maybe two months after when I was trying to be more physically active. I would for sure talk to you doctor about it.

Are you meeting both your liquid and protein goals? I felt that way rarely the first few weeks but it went away, and I never actually passed out. Just felt dizzy walking.

I have had also had some episodes exercising, maybe twice a year, and my nut recommended a carb and protein snack before working out.

If that doesn't help, please insist on seeing your doctor. Feel better!!

Poor Cyndi!!! I had no idea you were still having those issues!! in January during my week of tests at the hospital they told me I was having hypoglycemia episodes after each meal. No matter what I was eating. Usually it was between 30 mns to one hour after.

I'm not having dehydration anymore (except during the past heat wave indeed) since my stomach repair, which is great, but having other new issues to eat veggies...it should go away hopefully at some point..

Iron deficiency can for sure make you weak, but I'm wondering for our friend who's just post-op if it would be so soon? the surgeon probably checked her level before she left the hospital...

Do you know your ferritin level?? I was told by the "expert" at work I need to be at 100 (ha ha), my lowest was...3...for months...and on "good days" I'm at 30 but usually I feel weak when it's under 10, even if I'm not always anemic, iron deficiency will for sure have big consequences...

When anemic, I have now arrhythmia (since last Summer) I knew right after surgery one month ago, even before the blood test results I would get an infusion, my heart was pounding...

No regret either, but sometimes things get complicated...

I go back to the Dr. On Friday. If I keep having problems I will go in sooner. I know my levels were checked before surgery, but I dont think they were after. I know they were going to do more the morning I was discharged, but after 3 sticks and still couldnt get blood, they said they would come back, they never did. I even asked about them before I left. My hubby and I did go walking this morning. We went about 2 miles, so we are happy with that. Hoping walking more will help increase my bp.
I get 64+ oz of water, and between 30-40 grams of protein ( goal is 40 this week) plus I try to get broth in as well. As hubby says, he "allows" me to walk, drink, and relax. And I hate it, but I know hes right. I would overdo it if he was not here.

At the hospital one month ago they also had issues to get my blood post-op because with the heat wave I was dehydrated...but they are not allowed to discharged a patient without a blood test so at the end they called the "big boss" who was able to get my blood in one shot and painless...I got bruises from the other 3 attempts...

So you might be anemic and not knowing it!! shame on those incompetent hospital staff people!!

    Are you cold???
I was very cold when everyone was hot and sweating....being cold is a side effect of anemia.

I was not anemic before surgery, just very low ferritin, and the stomach repair did put me back in anemia. But they had already planned to give me an iron infusion right after surgery so I was covered (this time!).

Getting older and learning how to advocate for myself....seems we have to get better but also fight against careless medical staff, all at the same time!!

Take care and don't walk too much, resting is the most important right now, from month 2 you will be able to get more exercise.

Anemia is the devil. It is something that I've suffered with for years. It was a pre-surgery problem but has definitely been horrible since my surgery in October. I don't pass out but I still have serious problems with the world spinning when I stand up. When I walk from the car to the front door, I lose my breath. If you are getting enough fluids, I'd make sure that someone checks iron levels. I'm supposed to be starting IV iron infusions soon if some fire can be lit under their rear ends. Like Cyndi said, you are your best advocate. If you are uncomfortable,
make someone see you. Good luck!

Are you taking any meds for blood pressure? If you are, you should stop immediately and call your doctor. Most people have to come off BP meds right away or they can have issues. My dad had the same issue after his bypass. I will tell you that I am one of the rare people who still need my BP meds even though I am a healthy weight, eat right, and exercise. So if you are on anything like that ask your doctor. Also, the dizziness can be caused by low iron. My sister has to get iron infusions or she gets the same way and she is almost 8 years out. Also make sure you are hydrated and do not get overheated. If you were in the shower the first time the hot water could have also caused you to get dizzy. I had that often when I was in the shower but fine when going for walks. The main thing is to try to document any time it happens what you are doing, how your intake has been that day and anything else that may help you find answers.

I'm not on any meds, not even pain meds. I'm thinking more and more it's iron. I've always been cold natured. Always under a blanket, even at 75 or 80 degrees. I go back to the Dr. On Friday, so I will ask about it then. And if I have another episode, I will talk to him again. We do know, my bp drops and thats what makes me pass out. And it stays down for afew hours afterwards.
