    Default Update on me...

After dealing with the HORRIBLE dry socket, I ended up going back to the dentist 3 weeks later and getting 3 more pulled on the other side. I didn't have any problems with that side. I have still been dealing with being anemic. It has been pretty fierce lately. Then I had an emergency room visit because of the lovely monthly cycle and found out that I had fibroid tumors between the size of a golf ball and a tennis ball. A couple of them. They are recommending a hysterectomy and I am more than happy to oblige! They just can't do the surgery until they get my iron levels up so they've prescribed be IV iron infusions to start this week. I've had to order liquid multivitamins because I can't chew the gummies anymore. I am 9.5 months post-op and I have met my goal of 150 lbs. In fact, I got lower than that and had to eat carbs to gain it back because I am super tiny. I don't want to lose anymore. For a woman who has been up to a size 24 to go to anywhere between a size 4 and a size 10 (depending on the brand), I am happy with staying right where I am. I just want this extra skin to be gone. One day! Anyways, I just wanted to say hey to y'all and I hope everyone is doing okay. If you have my number, feel free to text. If you don't, feel free to message me or reply here. God bless!

I’m sooo sorry you’re experiencing all these health issues :-(

Been there, done that with the fibroids. Full hysterectomy was the answer.

I’m not able to take any vitamins or minerals or supplements by mouth. I use PatchMD patches. I’m not sure if they’re comparable price-wise. I have to double up on the Iron, as I developed anemia post VSG and four more surgeries.

Keeping you in my Thoughts and Prayers ;-)

Michelle, I'm sorry you've had such a rough patch. If anyone can carry the burden it's you, but I hope everything evens out and gets back to normal soon for you! You've been such a strong person both in the sleeve journey and life in general. Sending you best wishes and a hug.

I also had the full hysterectomy because of the fibroids.
Best thing I ever did, next to my sleeve surgery of course.
But let's agree, that this is the last hick up, health or dental wise!
As sraebaer said, we want you to be healthy.

    Hi Michelle,

Sorry you are still dealing with health issues. Hopefully it will stabilize soon!!

Regarding the anemia, until the bleeding can be contain with an hysterectomy, did you doctor tell you about options to stop the bleeding's? I saw several OBGYN and one was also an hematologist (they did several ADN tests to make sure I didn't have also some kind of diseases). Options go from chemical menopause (you take meds), to getting the IUD with hormones), those would stop the bleedings and the iron infusions would work faster.

I didn't have fibroids, but endemetriosis/adenomyosis, plus a tumor. Since I couldn't take the treatment or get an IUD because my health is tricky and I can't handle hormonal treatments, it took forever to stabilize my iron level because I had crazy heavy bleeding each month.

Also, since you reached goal in less than a year, if I was you I wouldn't add much carbs to stabilize the weight (or a little complex carbs but not much), but healthy fat. Nut butter or nuts, olive oil on veggies etc...because what would be important would be to increase your omega 3 intake to decrease your inflammation level. Most obese (or ex obese) have high inflammation levels (which is one of the reason why our anemia is important, but also the sleeve can decrease iron absorption) and that can lead to many health issues.
You could also take omega 3 supplements to help...(but stop those one week before any surgery)

Also carbs could trigger cravings and when you will reach two years out your sleeve will be a little bigger (it's the same for everyone) so you don't want to eat more and more carbs...I mean...you need to keep your insulin stable...

Regarding the skin issue, you lost quickly, give it time it will look better. My skin did bounce back. Try to massage your skin with oils, for the face and neck I like organic rosehip, for the body, any cheaper oil (almond or argan), always better to do it right after the shower, when the skin is still humid.

I hope you will feel better soon!
    Take care

Cyndi, I've never heard of the patches! I'm gonna have to check on that!

Lisa, thank you! It's just a speed trap connected to a speed bump. I'll get over it and I'll be so happy for the surgery to be over.

Sandra's, thank you! I will try that!

I am definitely going to be a healthy small person. I refuse to accept anything different! Thank y'all!

Sorry to hear you are having a rough go of it Michelle. My sister is almost 8 years post op and has anemia issues. (To be fair, my mom was anemic.) She has to get iron infusions periodically through the year. I am lucky that I have always had super high iron and no issues post op. I hope you get your anemia under control as I know it can cause a lot of energy issues. Hugs.

The infusions haven't started yet because my insurance loves to put my approvals on the back shelf til last minute. My doctors office is fighting with them to get it done. Had my iron checked again this month. It went from 8 points to 9.8 but they won't do the surgery until it's a high 12. They said if they did then they'd have to do a blood transfusion. Definitely don't want that so they gave me the depo shot to stop my cycle in the hope that my levels will continue to go up on their own.

I'm so upset with all the red tape all over the medical system/insurance....I hope they will find a way soon!! I can't believe the insurance is putting your safety at risk....awful people....

Anyway, in the mean time, try to eat red meat at least twice a week, blood sausage is the most effective way to improve your iron if you can find it and if your GI track can stand it. Lentils also help, but make sure during those "iron boosting meals" to avoid cheese/calcium because that would decrease absorption too.

Try to take your iron pills far from meals, and far from any tea or coffee. Usually iron pills also have C vitamin, if not, just take some with it.

I hope you will feel better soon! take care!

I'm afraid to take the iron supplements because of my problem with iron poisoning. I take extra vitamin c daily anyways. The red tape is ridiculous especially with something like this...
