    Default Pain

I just got home from my gastric sleeve. I did great yesterday and this morning. I get home and the pain is on! Some gas pain so I’ve been walking, sick to my stomach and I can’t sleep because of the pain. Can’t lay down in my bed. Tell me this will end? Any suggestions are appreciated

    Vickey,

I’m sorry to hear you’re experiencing this...

Walk, sip, rest, repeat. If you’re able to walk every hour (I set an alarm for walking), all the better.

I slept in my recliner for awhile. You may have to prop yourself up to sleep comfortably for now.

Yes, this WILL end...but PLEASE call your Bari Team and let them know what’s going on.

Sending All Good Thoughts and Prayers ;-)

For most surgeries the worth is day two. Acute pain because the anesthesia is going away, but you could probably take some liquid painkiller. Was it prescribed by your surgeon? drink slowly, only little sips, and for nausea, same thing, usually surgeons prescribe something too.

Like Cindy said, sleeping on an incline will help, I couldn't lay down either.
Day 3 you should start to feel better!

Don't worry, you will feel better soon, usually gas pain went completely away in around ten days.

Thank you both. Yes I was given liquid pain medicine and something for nausea. I can’t sleep while on pain medicine. I hope day three is better and I won’t have to take anything.

The pain is a bit better tonight. Taking pain medicine and nausea medicine that seems to be helping. Cold water is all I like right now so that’s I good thing. I ate a pop cycle too fast and my tummy didn’t like it. Won’t do that again! Thank y’all for the support. I was in a lot of pain earlier it was nice to know someone had been there done that.

I'm glad you are feeling better!

A little walking will help with the gas pain. Don't push yourself but try to get up and walk every hour if you can.
Try to keep busy, or watch a feel good movie, positive thinking does help for a fast recovery!

After the sleeve, I could only drink really cold, and not all types of water! my baby stomach was so picky! same thing, after a few months it did get better.

    Take care!

Every day will get a little better. Try and take your pain med if you can. I'm not a big proponent of taking pain meds in general, but I really did need it the first few days. Once you start drinking liquid protein, you should start to feel better/stronger. Walking is key too in my opinion.

The hardest part is over, you've got this!

Thank you for your reply. I have a question for you. Did your arms hurt after surgery? It feel like I was either strapped down or someone pulled on my arm to get me up. It’s right above my wrists on both arms in the exact spot on either arm. My arm feels like a got a rug burn.

Another thing. I could sip all day and it wouldn’t bother me. How much sipping should I be doing? IT feels like I’m doing too much. What are y’all thoughts? I’ve only made it to 32 0z I believe and I’m suppose to get 60z. It still seems like a lot.

I just had my nutrition class today and we were told 48 to 64ounces but AT LEAST 48 per day and 60 to 80 grams of protein.

You should be doing whatever your surgical team told you. They've done this before! Not the to time make up your own rules.

Here was mine from way back when:

Remember to drink a minimum of 64 ounces of fluid daily. Rapid weight loss along with a protein rich diet causes the kidneys to work harder to eliminate waste. Drinking plenty of fluid helps the body flush out these waste products and prevents dehydration and poor kidney function.

I know it's not funny, but I always chuckle when I hear people saying they have pain after surgery. I'm thinking all surgery comes with pain. But I'm thrilled to hear you're doing better and in a week the pain should be gone. Best of luck to you!

Oh my goodness, no, I didn't have any pain in my wrists or arms. I did have pain in the upper chest and back area, but that went away the first week or so. I can't imagine they would have had you strapped down, but only because I've never heard anyone else mention that before.
