    Question Suggestions

10 more days to my surgery. I’m so excited and nervous at the same time. I go Wednesday for preop testing and a preop nutrition class. What I was wanting to ask was if there is any suggestion what to take to the hospital or if there was anything I would need for the ride back home. I’ve been trying to keep myself busy getting things done before the surgery to keep the nerves from taking over.

So excited for you, don't forget to take your pillow and some lip balm. I took all kinds of things, but honestly I didn't need any of them. I spent my time sleeping LOL. Just rest up before you go if you can and have all the things you'll need when you get home like protein drinks, broth, and sugar free pops are the absolute stuff dreams are made of.

    You'll do great!

    Coopersmom covered it.

Also, ask your surgeon to get the air out after surgery.

I had very loose clothing for the ride home. Sugar free popsicles were my best friends. I had Isopure clear flavored protein drinks and froze it in ice cube trays. I also had Nectar protein powder to mix into Crystal Lite. And low sodium Vegetable broth. All of the above plus water...lots of water.

Mostly you’ll drink, walk, rest, repeat.

You’ve got this! Please keep us updated ;-)

I agree with a pillow. I traveled for surgery. So I used it for the plane to hold against my stomach and on car rides. It really helped with any bumps. Make sure you have everything bought and ready for yourself when you get home so you can just relax. Good luck!

I have 3 tips for you:
    1. bring a little pillow with you to the hospital, to tuck between your stomach and the seat belt of the car on your way home. (already mentioned)
    2. Ask the surgeon to push out the gas after the surgery is done. It is easy to do and may save you some discomfort.

    3. Keep a positive attitude and find your way to make this experience fun.

    Good luck!
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

The only thing I needed at the hospital was chapstick. Never even touched my phone, computer, or tv remote. Just slept and walked some when I wasn't sleeping. I was only there one night and the ride home was 10 minutes, so no biggie. I did spend most of that first week sleeping!

I found that taking a pillow and keeping it against my stomach helped a lot. I used an ace bandage to keep in place. Def chap stick because your mouth is going to be so dry since you can't drink until you pass the swallow test, which for me was the next day. I wasn't even allowed to brush my teeth after vomiting. Bring comfy clothes to go home in, stretch top. Slip on shoes, bending isn't fun post OP. Bring a book, any chargers you need. You should do a before picture and measurements. You'll most likely go home the next day so you'll probably spend most of the time sleeping and walking. Best of luck to you!!

As Aydensmomma says, take a before picture. My cousin, who drove me to the hospital, insisted on taking a before picture of me before we went to the hospital. As for anything besides the pillow, I know I didn't look at my phone, kindle or anything after surgery. I don't remember even turning the tv on. You will be sleeping, resting and walking.
