I am required to do the 2 week liquid diet pre surgery. According to the plan I can have lowfat low sugar yogurt, sugar free jello and pudding, and strained cream soups along with liquids. I have been getting 70-90 grams of protein and usually get around 700 calories. I am on day 9 and just want to offer some encouragement to all of those who are terrified of the pre-surgery diet (I know I was), it's not that bad! At my last dr visit my surgeon said "eh, just do the best you can" which took a lot of pressure off, but I'm happy to say I haven't cheated once! My theory is that most who are going through this have been obese for a long time, if not their whole life, and we have became "experts" at dieting, depriving ourselves until our bodies just say enough is enough and we stumble back into the binge eating that put us where we are. Obviously I am still pre surgery but my thinking is that it is just 2 weeks! We have all crash dieted for at least that..post surgery our bodies will be different and unable to tolerate massive eating so just get through these 2 weeks and then start with your new rituals. Again, I am no where close to being an expert or even remotely have any experience after surgery but for all of those of you dreading the preop diet, it is REALLY not that bad. It has made me even more excited and optimistic about life post surgery. I hope this eases some of the worries about it, I have often heard that it is the hardest part, I hope that is correct! Good luck...
