Default Why am I still at such a large size

Hello, everyone! I have a question that really bothers me. Why am I still at such a large size at my weight? I am 5'1" and weigh 155, 20 lbs from goal. I wear a size 16! (And I know some would give their eye teeth to wear a 16). I know it has to do with my being a shortie, but I'm only probably a small to midsize frame and I have a hourglass figure (of sorts). It's so frustrating to hear about tall people (and I know we're not supposed to compare our weight losses) who may weigh 155 but be at a size 10 or less. I mean, I'm happy for them, but I can't understand it. Can anyone give me a reasonable explanation so I can understand this and maybe feel better about myself? Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled to have lost 50 lbs and be in a L shirt instead of 2-3xxx depending on the brand and size 22 pants. If anyone knows why this is or has the same "problem" please tell me their opinion. I've been this way all my life, when I did weigh around 120 or so, I was still in about a size 12 and medium! Thanks so much for any feedback.

    Hey Barby!

We are all different and lose in different ways. My surgeon made me have a dexa scan to know exactly what I could really lose. I was a slow loser and it took me two years to reach my surgeon's projection (lost +100 pounds). I went from a size 24/26 to 12/14/16. I was hoping to reach a strong 12/14, but didn't have time, and got sick. But without my major health issues, I think I could have reached that during the third year.

After several pregnancies, I knew I would never go back to my pre-pregnancy smaller size (8/10) because anyway my body did change a lot, I'm very muscular dixit my plastic surgeon! being obese for +20 years, and active, did make my body different. Muscle is good too....

Anyway, have hope, you can still lose a little more, but if you can, try the dexa scan, sometimes they have special on groupon.

You'll probably love this site ... enter your height, weight, sizes, etc. and see if YOU look like other people your size. Also, enter people who are taller than you who weigh the same and see what THEY look like.

    https://www.mybodygallery.com/search...=any&bodytype=

Also, I don't think your clothes sizes are unusual for your BMI. At 5'1" and 155 pounds, your BMI is 29.3. I'm 5'5", and when I weighed 176 pounds, my BMI was also 29.3. And at that BMI I was DEFINITELY wearing size 14s and size 16s.

Lots has to do with distribution of weight and excess skin after surgery. I have to literally "tuck" myself into a size 10 pants when a 12 is too large in certain styles. Tops have to be large or X-large to go over the belly sometimes, except when I buy from specific higher end stores and they vanity size. My sizes have changed as I age too, "sands shifting" causes that
I'm sure you look lovely in the clothes and it's, after all, only a size!! Continued success!!

I am 5'3 and with that BMI of 29,3 I would be 165 lbs.
I would also be in the size 16 range...

Please don't forget that women's clothes in particular do NOT run true to sizing. I wear a 4 jean, but in dressier pants an 8. In shirts, it may be a small, medium, or large. And if its a particular cut of dress, I may wear from a 6 - 12.

    Yes, even shoes - runs from a 6 - 7 1/2.

Ann2, thanks for sharing the link. I put in my info (noticing I was in the 65-death category, lol) and with my pant size, I actually saw people that looked like me! Apparently, still, have some mind work needing to be done. It was really helpful. My weight is 134-135 and the endocrinologist said my BMI was great at 5'4. Acceptance.

At 5’2”, 150 lbs I was definitely a size 16. Even at 100 lbs, some tops have to be medium.

I don’t pay attention to the size, it’s just a number. I pay attention to how much better I feel, look and feel about myself since VSG.

I’ll bet you look amazing since you’ve lost 50 lbs! And you’re not done yet.

A positive attitude goes a long way. Fall in love with yourself. You’re doing an awesome job ;-)
