Surgery is thursday and I am freaking out and not prepared. I only lost 15 lbs before surgery. Any advice is appreciated.
It’s normal to feel nervous and freaked out. I had to remind myself to breathe (LOL) and relax.
15 pounds lost pre-op is amazing. I only lost 10. My Bari Team was happy with what I lost. The idea is to shrink the liver as much as possible.
I was instructed to drink a gallon of water a day to flush toxins. I would check with your Bari Team about that amount, though.
You can do this! We’re cheering you on!
First of all, I didn't lose before surgery. I find that requirement silly. (Just something the insurance companies made up). You will lose after surgery, no problem. (I may have lost a little during my 5 day pre-op diet, but I don't remember.)
It's normal to be nervous, we all were. But it is so amazing and life changing, try to get excited. You are about to become healthy and regular-sized, and it will be so much fun! Never in a million years did I even dream it would be possible, but it happened and my life has totally changed for the better. Good luck tomorrow, you've got this!
Drink lots of water the days beforehand, it helps with the IV insertion, keeps the airway clearer and makes things "flow" more smoothly! You are not alone in the nervous category, it's a surgery. Keep the prize in mind and when you're going under the anesthesia, visualize the person you want to become and breathe deeply
My surgery was five weeks ago and I was so scared! I only lost 8 lbs in the five months before surgery. I'm down a total of 36 lbs now.
I cried on the way to the hospital, thought about backing out. I'm so glad I didn't. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. And today, I feel better than I have in years.
Drink lots of water today. The hardest part for me was getting the IV in. sip, sip, sip, walk, walk, walk.. and sleep. You got this.
Best of luck to you tomorrow! It's normal to be a bit nervous, but great things are coming your way. Get through those first 48 hours and it's pretty smooth sailing afterwards. Remember to follow your Doctors post op instructions to the letter, sip, sip, sip and walk when you can. I promise you will be happily surprised over the coming months.
You should be fine. The purpose of preop weight loss is to shrink the fat on your liver to make surgery easier for the doc. Your liver is "in the way". A smaller liver means easier access. It's also so you can get used to the diet. 20 pounds is goal not a hard requirement. The worst case sceanrio is the doctor opens you up, can't get to the surgical area, closes and tells you to come back. It's incredibly rare from what I've heard.
Hey Guys, My surgery is on the 24th and I was surprised that my doc doesn’t require a pre-op diet. He does nothing but Bariatric surgery and is one of the highest rated and busiest Docs in Texas so I trust him. Anyone else not have to do the pre op diet? Also, I definitely have a large fatty liver.
Thanks for the reply sraebaer. I do feel fortunate considering its obviously not a requirement for a successful outcome in surgery. Im kinda going all out..last dance with all my favorite steak houses and restaurants. Im going to drop weight faster than a prom dress considering my 4000 plus calories a day for the last week and a half. Had 2 double doubles for lunch and a large pizza for dinner without any shame. My plan is to absolutely hate anything with high calories by next week.
