    Default Women's Sizes?!

Why is it men know exactly their size, and women never do. I (almost) always wear size 8 and smalls in everything. Bought a pair of hiking pants, Kuhl brand (with the two dots over the U), in a TWELVE. All I can figure is they are made in another country with a different sizing. I told the REI lady I was just going to cut out that 12 so I don't have to look at it and she said "good idea." I haven't had a 12 in my closet in 5 years. Full disclosure, I did have to buy a little loose so there would be room for my expedition weight long underwear.

Oh well, they are super cute pants and really tough for climbing in rocky areas.

Then the next day I got a pair of size 8 hiking shorts at Eddie Bauer. Go figure.

Oh you are too funny! No, women's sizes are, IMHO, are whimsically sized.

Thought of you and Kilimanjaro ... had a dear friend (Devi Unseold) and she and her dad, Willie, were climbers (he was one of the first Americans up Everest).

It's so true! Women's sizes are crazy. All of my size 10 pants fit except one pair. The pair, I really want to wear to Italy! Why is that???

Women’s sizes aren’t even consistent within the same brand of clothing anymore. It makes me crazy!

I think it is more of a guide line anyway...
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

Bought biking gear for my ride across Germany, Hungary, Austria, Slovakia. My normal L/XL size was a 3XL in bike jerseys. All the tags were from China. Made me want to lose weight even more.

Clothing sizes drive me crazy........but at least they are now all much smaller than pre surgery so I can (almost) handle that.

I recently bought a winter coat - it was a XS. I have never been (and don't believe that I am now) an extra small in anything ever in my entire life :-)
Unusually I am a 12 top and 10 bottom....but have bought 8's and 14's-----I have given up trying to make sense of it.

I had that same problem ordering biking shorts off Amazon. Ordered my size and couldn't get them over one leg. I did learn to see where stuff came from. These were England where the size chart was very different than ours.

Men don't try stuff on that much. We know our size go in pick stuff out(or our SO picks it out and we aren't there). If upon putting it on for the first time it doesn't fit we return it and don't buy that brand anymore. As a result there is training on brands to standardize sizes. There are a couple notorious ones that have "wrong" sizes like J crew that runs a size smaller on everything.

Our clothes aren't as designed to be form fitting anyway like women's are and our bodies don't have as much differentiation in where weight goes. For instance dress shirts are sized on neck/sleeve measurements. As the neck size increases so does the torso measurements because guys with thick necks have thicker torsos. Pants are waist width/length. Jackets tend to be the most differentiated but they'll have big, long and extra long to deal with different torso sizes.

One thing on men's clothes though. If you aren't in the 34-40 inch waist range and medium to xl shirt range selection is tiny. I'm 6'5" and have 30 inch inseam(long torso). I can buy regular pants now with lots of selection but I'm an xl tall in shirts which has about 3% of the selection regular xl has(big and tall corner rather than the whole store). Regular xl shirts either are too short in the back(plumber crack) or on long sleeves are two inches too short on sleeves. If you see tall guys rolling long sleeves to their elbow it's to hide the fact the sleeves don't go to their wrists. Dress shirts have sleeve length variation because it just doesn't work to have too short sleeves but regular long sleeve shirts are all standardized.

Devi had altitude sickness and did not return from Nanda Devi. Her dad, Willie, died a few years later on Mt Rainier. They were a great family. His wife, Jolene, and sons still live in WA. Devi laughed like bells ringing.

I think that now one know what is the ideal size for a woman, it is important that you feel like you are in you ideal size, if not work on it
