That is so insane to me! You would think that the doctor would try to be supportive of anything that would help improve the health of their patient. Amazing.

I know in the states (and probably everywhere) you are never released from the hospital without a whole lot of instructions. You even have to sign that you received them. Not to mention, there is no way a bariatric surgeon would not give someone pre/during/ and after surgery instructions. If not, they could die!!
Sraebaer, you are spot on about how releases from any surgery, however "minor" or "major" and the criterion for release.

Any accreditated hospital in the US has a national accreditation they must secure to operate (no pun intended); these standards are the basis of their quality assurance programs, in which the majority spend a great deal of money and due diligence. Part of their motivation, of course, is excellent care. The other is the avoidance of lawsuits and liability, bad publicity, etc.

In my case, I preface my share about my sleeve with "all 7 of my various ologists '" were involved in my decision, for chronic health reasons, that this surgery was my best option for continued quality of life." OR if I feel snarky about answering a personal question, I use "the whyever would you want to know" line. In most situations, people stop their silliness.

I am following WW as a tracking tool and slow weight loss -- I like the program. But they are a group that I am not comfortable saying I have been sleeved. The judgmental, "easy way out" comments make me less than kind, and I chose to live my life in some measure of kindness and encouragement in dealing with others. I decide how I behave in response to others, but protecting them and me from their misinformation can be tedious at best!

    I love your rant!
