    Default Questions for 1st visit....

    Hi all,

I go for my 1st visit with a surgeon in August. I'm trying to get as many pre test done before going to my first visit. I would like to be able to have this surgery no later than November if at all possible.

What all did you have to get done prior to having surgery? I heard a sleep study. I've been told that if you have OSA you may not be able to have the sleeve? Has anyone here experienced that? It seems to me that would be one of the main reasons to have surgery.

Has anyone used Dr. McGill in Atlanta?

I need all the help, suggestions, tips, etc..... I am SCARED TO DEATH of not being successful. That frightens me more than the surgery itself.

    Hi there
I was self pay (and I live in NZ) so I had my initial consultation with my surgeon, had 3 weeks on the Optifast pre-op diet and that was all.

I have insurance so it is a 4-6 month journey with no shortcuts. I just had my first visit 2 weeks ago and have to get clearance from a heart doc, lung doc, and gastro doc (I had a liver transplant). I am looking at surgery in Nov/Dec.

I am hoping my insurance will cover it. It sounds like I won't be able to have it done this year.

I was self-pay and had VSG within 4 weeks of consultation with my Dr and Bari Team.

I had a seminar, blood work, EKG, psych eval, 3 week pre-op diet.

It’s normal to feel scared. You won’t fail. A positive attitude goes a long way. I had to remind myself to breathe and take one moment at a time.

Best of luck as you embark on this amazing journey ;-)

All I had before surgery was the sleep study, and it was actually a few years old. Then the classes with the nutritionist and meeting with the psychologist. I too was self pay so no hoops. Super easy, nothing to worry about.

My surgery was covered by my insurance (Thank God). I had to go to a seminar at the hospital with the bariatric team, psych eval, EKG, endoscopy. My process didn't take long at all. From the time I went to the seminar to my actual surgery was about 6 weeks. It would have been sooner but my surgeon and I decided to wait until after the holidays. Good Luck on your journey!
