    Cool New to the Forum

    Hi Everyone,

    New to the forum, but have been reading different posts along the way, and everyone is doing really well.

    Starting weight 95kg now at 76kg target weight 65kg

    I'm 2 months in post surgery and have to say I'm pretty impressed with how things are going. I had my surgery in Cyprus (where I live) using a robotic system which was less invasive and less scarring. The first few days were pretty awful, severe post op sickness and had a lovely drain in my abdomen for almost 2 weeks.
    The intake of fluids for the first few weeks was pretty tough but drinking the broth and sipping water throughout the day worked well. I found that drinking the broth from sieving chicken noodle cup a soups was a blessing.
    Liquids to mush was slow at first - I moved to this by day 20 (I wasn't ready to move from liquids any early). I generally stuck to baby food I personally found this easier than trying to liquidise standard food.

    For me the most difficult part so far was transitioning from baby food to solids - I still struggle with solids and tend to eat the same things most days and just eat when my body tells me to. Does anyone have any specific foods they find easier to chew and digest?
    Not really into smoothies, Ive tried them but find them either too sweet or too sour.
    Thats one thing I did find really strange that some foods are either too sweet or too salty even though they never used to be.

    I'm averaging 1-2kgs every 10 days am I right in thinking this is about right?

    Welcome!

    Right now your body is totally confused. Your taste buds will adjust over time.

    Eggs, egg salad, tuna salad, chicken salad, cottage cheese, yogurt, refried beans are some of the solid foods I started with. 3.5 years out these are still some of my go to protein sources. Veggies I had to experiment with...eggplant and zucchini are my favorites.

    Solid food still has to be super tender, especially meats. Don't worry if it takes a little longer to tolerate dense protein like chicken. I found fish a lot easier early on as it was so soft.

    As long as you are reaching your liquid and protein goals, it really doesn't matter if you're eating the same stuff for a while. It won't be long before you can tolerate more foods. Good luck!

    Yes, the comments up top are spot on -- at 21 months I can finally eat a hard boiled egg (early on it was a NO). I did fine with shrimp and fish, but not chicken or beef. Some things are harder on your stomach than others. Low fat refried beans and fat free cheddar were good proteins; bone broth mixed into the chicken to soften it helped. But eggs, nope.
