    Default 4 days post-op

    Hi all,

I had my surgery on Saturday 22nd June and I am currently 11lbs down! I am obviously on the clear liquid stage at the moment but struggling to fit in 8 glasses of water. I am having a mug of broth at lunch times for a bit of flavour but can anyone tell me how much they were able to handle at this stage? I’m getting around 2/3 of a mug down before I feel full.

You're about the same place as many, including myself. Just "sip like it's your job" all day long and try to keep track of how much you're consuming. It's a challenge and it's hard to get in the "prescribed" amount in the beginning, so do your best! I found it got easier and easier as the days went by. I wish you continued success!!

My surgery was on June 12th. I'm on full liquids until tomorrow. I still struggle to get enough liquids. 3-4 oz of soup, broth, protein shake, is the max I can handle at one time. Sugar free popsicles help me get more fluids as does chewing on crushed ice.

My surgery was a long time ago (well 20 months) and you're doing fine as long as you are feeling okay. Just don't let yourself get dehyradted.

I know it is hard but keep going and water is still for me heavier than anything else that I drink or eat.

Just keep sipping as Jerzey girl suggested.

Amazing weight loss - The more you drink the better you feel. I was told 6 plastic cups on the second day of my surgery then 10 on day 3 then 12 then 15 on day 4.

I found it hard to do 12 and hard to 15 cups a day 10 cups was about a litre of water as they were 100 ml plastic cups.

I always made sure that I did drink that 10 x 10 ml every day that as it was stressed that that's what makes your body return back to working and waking up from the surgery it has endured.

    Well done!

My surgery was 3 and a half years ago, and on day 4 I was not drinking much. I spent the first 3 days post-op with an IV and vomiting all day. Was nasty.
A few days later I was drinking around 4 glasses at best (1 liter).
So no worries, even if you don't drink enough now, you will drink more later!

    Take care

I was advised by my Bari Team to sip, sip, sip at 5-10 minute intervals all day and I would eventually get in the recommended amount. I still use ice cubes/chips and sugar free popsicles to stay hydrated.

3/4 of a cup is probably 4-6 oz ...That’s great!

    Congrats on your journey ;-)

    You are doing great.
It seems like an impossible mission to get your fluids in when you start but it soon becomes a habit - it has to!
As above just keep sipping every waking moment. You will soon be able to increase your quantity.

Trust me it gets better, actually u will be able to drink water like normal humans do. At least i can in 1 year. Starting liquid was hard for me. Because everyday u focusing nutrition too much it bored me. Find something to do with it while u drink your water constantly and give 30 min break drink your milk meat juice whatever ur doc. said. U will be fine.

You just have to do it, no excuses. Teeny tiny sips every waking moment. Don't try to drink broth all at once, do it in tiny sips over time.

It's super important to reach your liquid and protein goals early on. It keeps you out of the hospital with dehydration and gets your energy back.

Sounds like you're off to a great start!

Congratulations on your surgery! I think it sounds like you're doing fine. There were days early on that I wasn't able to get all of the water in, but I tried as best I could. It does get easier as time goes on. You've got a lot of exciting times ahead, that's awesome.
