    Default Getting anxious

So my surgery is next Tuesday July 2. I’m feeling anxious, not backing down but just irritable and feeling anxiety. Partly because I’m on 2 week prep and feeling headacey. I truly wish I was stronger. Did anyone else feel like this?

    Hello

Congratulations on deciding to do this!

Yes, I think we all wondered how life might be with the loss of food.

I used to feel weak and headache and loss of concentration if I did not eat enough you know the fad diets or skipping meals.

I thought it would be like that forever more after surgery too!

    BUT IT IS NOT !!!!

Pay no attention to what is going on now with your body 2 weeks pre-surgery it will pass!
Only 14 days come on you have this!

You will feel tired after the surgery so you need to nap when that happens for the first couple of weeks.

But that is not lacking food it is your body healing from the surgery and all the stuff that it is now confused with.

Think of this as a detox or as healing which of course it is!

It's perfectly normal to feel like this but you will be walking around within a couple of hours of having surgery and then taking care of yourself by walking and believe me keep that up forever after you recover I still walk around now after eating and drinking something its a good habit.

It's going to be so Good!

This time next year you will be slim and healthy and this will be something you are supporting others with.

Let us know if you need more questions asked.

By the way - you really will be able to eat again just not huge portions of anything - So don't feel you are mourning or grieving for the loss of food.

I eat so well and I love the taste of everything that I chose to eat.

That will all come in a couple of months time so you have so much to look forward to.
    xx

For me, your current phase of the process (two week prep) was by far the worst. I was fortunate in that both the operation and recovery were easy. Once home,I took it easy for a week or so and then the weight loss adventure began.
    I wish you well.

Pudsley said it so well. Your feelings are probably due to the pre-op diet and just anxiety about the surgery in general. This is totally normal. Two weeks post-sleeve you will be just fine.

It’s perfectly normal to be anxious. Sometimes I had to remind myself to breathe...and to just take one moment at a time.

The headachey feeling may be alleviated by drinking tons of water...to flush out all the toxins. It helped me a great deal.

We’re with you in spirit...cheering you on!

IMO, the pre-op diet was the only thing that was a life difficult about the whole journey. But it's doable, just keep yourself busy so you don't dwell on it.

I spent my pre-op at a friend's lake house while they were all eating gourmet meals and drinking fancy wine. I enjoyed the lake and the friendship. And guess what, when I went back the next year I rocked a bathing suit! Priorities friend. Start your positive attitude now and it will last FOREVER. Best of luck to you.

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery, it's an exciting time for sure. I think the 2 week pre op was one of the hardest parts of the surgery LOL. It's not unusual to feel anxious or even irritable at this stage. I was going through caffeine, sugar, etc. withdraws so headaches were the norm. Try and keep your mind occupied as much as possible so you don't have time to overthink.

You've come a long way and this time next you'll be in the recovery mode! Best of luck to you.

The 2 week pre op diet will soon be a vague memory when your "sleeved" life kicks in and the energy level soars, your health improves and you start feeling lighter and better than you ever imagined. Life is wonderful pre op and you're going to love this journey! I found that concentrating on how I envisioned my life after surgery, no more insulin, no CPAP, more energy, smaller sizes, etc.; was a great mind distraction and I even made a vision board of what I "saw" for my life after surgery. 8 years later I keep changing that vision board, but still use it as a visual reminder of what I want in my life!

Continued success and keep in touch after surgery to share all the NSV's you'll experience!

Thank you to both of you. Such great advice. I really like the idea of the vision board and to keep the goals I have in front of me. It’s been a rough week so far at work and I think that anxiety has bee inflating the other. Actually starting to feel better and you kind words have really been a blessing. I will definitely check in post op

My surgery is on Friday and I am also anxious. I am on a clear liquid diet for pre-op for three days and I am nauseous, have a headache, and am so hungry. I just want to get the surgery over with ASAP. I am also super emotional. I find myself crying over weird things. I think I am in food mourning.

So sorry you are feeling sick. This will pass. Only 1 more day and you will be on your way. Mine is Tuesday and I feel weak and shaky most of the time and pretty irritable but I keep thinking about being able to wear nice things and most of all walking into a room and not looking around thinking I’m the biggest person in the room or being at a party and people looking to see what In eating or worse comments like “ not too big a piece or aren’t you on a diet or my favorite calories, calories, calories.” It’s humiliating! I want to know what it’s like to feel normal and I’m sure you do too! This is worth it! We can do this, some have to go thru chemo to get well, we can do this. I wish you all the best, hang in there.
