I’m back

I left for a 7 day bicycle ride across Germany, Hungary, Austria and Slovakia on June 7th. I actually rode over 40 miles per day and kept up! At night we were picked up at designated points and transported to our next ride. I met a delightful couple from Christchurch New Zealand that we rode with. Then the husband and I flew to Venice Italy for time to ourselves. The food was spectacular! I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to eat since I was just 2 months post-op, but it went well. Did I say the food was spectacular? And best of all, I lost over 5 pounds while on vacation from all the bike riding and walking. I probably could have lost more but I had to try the desserts in each country and Venice had the most spectacular pasta and I had to eat the pizza. I can’t wait to be retired and able to travel more! Although I didn’t like how heavy I still look in all my photos, I’m excited to be able to compare these pictures to past vacations, and then 1 year from now, it will be even better!

Wow - it sounds like such a fantastic adventure! All of the biking is incredible too. Can't believe you were able to do so much at only 2 months post-op. Truly inspiring! That is definitely a bucket list trip for me

HI Lisa, wow you are amazing in that you have managed that so shortly after surgery. The surgery gives yo a new lease on life and you have certainly taken the lead in your new life. My best in Italy are the Gelato's.

Amazing! I'm surprised you could eat enough for the energy to ride 40 miles a day.

My husband and I now plan ALL vacations around activity. That way you can enjoy a little extra food wise because you're exercising more than usual. We also love tours, where they take care of all the background stuff while you have all the fun.

Proud of you! Keep up the great work.

I guess my next "bucket list" item is to become a biker so I can do rides with my husband. I think the longest I've ridden is 20 - 25 miles. Just not a "biker chick" yet, but seeing he is really getting into it (just did almost 500 miles on Ride the Rockies) I should too.

So glad to hear you had an excellent time Lisa. I wondered where you'd been and remembered you said you were taking a vacation. How awesome to hear you were able to bike and keep up, try the foods and deserts and still were able to lose 5 pounds. I'd say that is a WIN WIN.

I am going on an extended vacation myself the first week of Sept and I am so excited to be able to travel without being miserable and huffing and puffing. Lots of pictures for me too for the first time in a long time! So happy you enjoyed yourself.

What a great adventure! I hope to ride a bike again once I get closer to my goal. Last time I tried it was not fun at all. Thanks for helping to calm my nerves a bit. My surgery is this Thursday and I'm scheduled to spend a week at a research station near the Arctic Circle at the end of October which will be 4 months post surgery and I've been a little concerned about it being too soon. Feeling much better after reading your post Lisa.
