    Default Do you get hungry?

I just watched Dr. V's video about sleeve myths and found it interesting that the absence of hunger hormones after the sleeve is a myth (apparently only ghrelin is stopped by the sleeve but there are many other hormones).

I myself do find that in the 8 years since my sleeve I have not really been hungry. Cravings? Yes, definitely. A desire to eat when I smell something good? For sure. Hunger pangs, empty hunger? No. That definitely was removed by my surgery.

How about all of you? I am interested in hearing your experiences.

I would say I didn't get hungry while losing, but now over 5 years later I do get hungry, and have to be sure to follow my healthy lifestyle as far as food and exercise. You are one of the lucky ones if you don't feel hunger after so long!

Well..I would feel lucky if I didn't have cravings lol. I have to be eternally vigilant, as you do, about eating and exercise. In a way I wish I did have hunger as sometimes I will suddenly be shaky, from low blood sugar, and hunger might have reminded me to eat some protein. Funny- until I saw the video I thought everyone is hunger free forever following sleeve surgery!'

Like you, I also get that "shaky" feeling. I don't experience real hunger pains pre-sleeve, but I definitely feel something when my sleeve is empty and I need to eat.

It is certainly not the hunger I used to have pre surgery.
I feel when I need to eat something, but when I am busy, I easily forget to eat.
I never forgot to eat pre sleeve.
So let's say, my hunger came back partially.
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

I get shaky, not hungry. I stick to a schedule as much as possible so I stay “even”.

When we’re traveling...My husband is very supportive (He’s My SuperHero) and if I say we have to stop because I need to eat, that’s what we do.

I'm only 4 weeks out but I definitely get hungry, pretty much since day one. I also get ridiculous cravings. Was playing play-doh with my daughter earlier making burgers, hot dogs, french fries, onion rings and got this unbelievable craving for onion rings. How dumb is that? Could practically taste them. I would be so sick if I ate an onion ring this soon!

The hunger is real but passes very quickly after only a few bites of food. Prior to surgery, I could each such large amounts of food and hardly ever feel satisfied - it was sickening!

I'll have to watch that Dr V video. I find him very interesting. Has an interesting video about incorporating exercising at the gym too soon after surgery and how it stalls weight loss.

I am sorry you didn't at least get a honeymoon period with no hunger!
Oh man do I know cravings...all too well...I succumbed my way to 60 pounds of regain year 4...and thankfully managed to get it off again. I could try to blame intense life stress but that is just an excuse.

Pre and post surgery hunger is completely different experience for me. Six years out, I do get hungry and sometimes even shaking if I fail to eat at routine times I have established. Difference is one or two bites of protein rich food fills me up completely. If I use those poor choice cravings in place of a protein rich choice, I can consume a large quantity of junk food. It takes a good deal of willpower to always choose protein over mashed potatoes, or fruit over ice cream, or chili over pizza, etc. Weight watchers recipes and tracking really helps me with this.

Yes I do get hungry now it came in at about 11 months after surgery.
    Some days more than others.
I also go with the craving for certain food. My body seems to tell me something is needed. Yesterday it was fish the day before Liver. Last week spinach. Some days I long for some cake but I think that is just my head and it's old ways, so I pay no attention to the silly ones and remind myself of how awful life was eating in that way, and all the new clothes that I have now.

I don't feel hungry but yes to feeling "odd" if I haven't eaten for a while. A quick snack fixes that right up.
