Default How to work around the dreaded three week stall

Three weeks after surgery, could be a bit sooner, could be a bit later, a lot of people experience a stall in their weight loss.
That can happen for a lot of reasons, but mostly because your body is wondering what the heck you did and is saving all the food and liquids it can.
    This will pass.
Don't worry, follow your surgeons rules and all will work out.

But now, how to work around it...
Don't weigh yourself until 5 or 6 weeks out.
    Really!
    Put the scales away.
You will get on the scales at your first doctors appointment after three weeks, but do not (not!) step on your own scale until a couple of weeks later.
Make someone hide the scales if necessary.
After 5 weeks you will be pleasantly surprised at the sight of that number and you will never know if and for how long you stalled.
Just follow the rules that were given to you and you will be fine.
    Promise!
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

That a good post for newbies!

I was surprised my weight loss was not linear post-op. Was not expecting so many stalls. Now I know better!! but not many books or publications did explain the stalls and especially the third week one (for me was at four weeks but same..).

Actually I do think that it's the best advice to ignore the scale except once a week.
In my case, I had a kind of stomach flu right around that time, the surgeon saw me right away and asked me to monitor my weight once or twice a day because he was worried I could be dehydrated again. A sudden drop, since I was also dealing with a bad diarrhea (sorry tmi!) could be the sign I needed an Iv again...but right after I was back to normal, I did ignore the scale and checked once or twice a week only.

Yes Dutchie, I agree 100%. No need to put yourself through that added stress and worry, if you're following Dr.'s orders everything levels off on it's own.

The stalls (and there have been a handful for me along the way since surgery last September) were definitely a surprise, but the biggest thing I've learned to get through them are patience, staying off the scale for a bit and, most importantly, re-checking myself and committing to the program.
