Bye bye gallbladder

I think I may have made some posts over the past few months about upper back pain attacks. Last night the pain was the worst and wouldn’t stop. It was not only my back but in my abdomen for the first time and sternum. I went to the hospital at 9pm. I got home today at 7pm today. no longer with my gallbladder. It was removed by a bariatric surgeon because I was sleeved. I guess that’s how they roll. I was in the unit where people were recovering from bariatric surgery so i felt like I was with my people lol
It’s frustrating that I’ve been telling my doctor about my pain since February. I knew that was it. The ultrasounds showed thickening of the walls and it “looked irritated”. They said the START of an infection. I have never been in that much pain. I can’t imagine what a full blown infection would have felt like. RIP gallbladder you won’t be missed. Anyone else who had there’s removed... did you have any digestive issues after? I’m hoping it’s smooth sailing and I don’t end up with some other ailment

A gastroenterologist always removes the gallbladder so it surprises me that your surgeon didn't check it. Did he know about the pain at the time of your surgery? Had mine removed in 2006 and haven't had a problem since, other than with MS and back surgeries.

I had mine removed 30 years ago...”diseased” was the term they used. I was grateful that the pain was gone !

I had mine removed at the same time as my VSG due to a low-functioning gallbladder. Only side-effect is diarrhea if I eat something greasy. Other than that I haven't had any issues.

I just had mine removed on May 28th after an acute pancreatitis attack. I was in the hospital five days - how are you coping home so soon?
So far my digestion seems about the same though I know a certain percentage of people have a problem with ongoing diarrhea.
I am glad the attack wont happen again- it was awful- very similar to gall bladder attack. At least you wont have that again!
I am eating low fat to soothe my pancreas and I know they recommend you do that for a while after gall bladder surgery too.
Sorry you were not heard- that is frustrating!

I meant to add that rapid weight loss is a well known cause of gallstones. I was given anti stone meds for the first six months after surgery so did not get them but had a big regain and then another rapid loss and bing- stones and later pancreatitis.

It’s typically out patient surgery. I was In the hospital over night because they scheduled surgery the next day. I was discharged an hour after surgery once I drank some broth and didn’t feel nauseous from it. I had surgery at 2 and was discharged at 5:50 pretty crazy.

Yea- I was expecting to leave from the recovery room considering what I read about gall bladder surgery but I had been in the hospital 2 1/2 days on iv fluids only- not even water- due to the pancreatitis and I have figured out that is why they kept me another three nights. However considering how I felt surgery night I still am amazed they send people home right away. Glad you did well.

This all sounds way too familiar for me.
I had those attacks pre surgery and I still have them from time to time.
I told my surgeon of course pre op and he had some ultrasounds made, which showed nothing, no stones or any abnormalities.
But as I understand from you, even a thickening of the wall can cause symptoms like this?
I will keep that in mind.

II had mine out about 2 months before surgery. It was no longer my friend!
