Default Ways to deal with regain before it gets out of hand

The following questions to be quite helpful when sorting out the issue of weight regain:
    1. How many times a day do you eat?
    2. How many times a day do you get hungry?
    3. Do you ever feel full and if so, how long does it last?
    4. How much can you eat in one sitting?
    5. Are you having heartburn or reflux?
    6. Have you started any new medicines?
    7. How has your energy level been? Your sleep?
    8. Are there any new or ongoing stressors in your life?
    9. Why do you think you are regaining weight?

Rule out any medical issues, like thyroid, hormones, pregnancy, or medication change. Chances are its something you can figure out.

If you are eating too much, or too often, seek out some support in the best way you are comfortable - counselor, journaling, friend, etc. And don't forget WATER, SLEEP, WALKING are important to your physical and mental health.

    Just some thoughts this morning.
    [I]HW: 240 lbs SW: 199 lbs GW: 140 lbs

In addition, be completely honest about the amount of junk that you have "re-introduced" into your life. Your sleeve will help you out for a long time, but eventually, it will catch up with you!

Thanks for your morning thoughts Annie.

Whenever I have ANY negative experience, I always look at what I’ve eaten. MFP is an invaluable tool. The instructional information I received from my Bariatric Team is also a tool in my toolkit. There are times when I have to take prednisone and that creates a temporary weight gain. I just keep doing what I know works for me and it rights itself. Meditation gets my mind right and I’m grateful for that tool also.

Having this forum where where we exchange information and support each other is a blessing ;-)

    Thanks Annie!
Those are great and very helpful questions.
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

No doubt Prednisone is a life saver. But taking it five months in total this time (longest time ever!), the gain is here to stay. First year post-op, 3 days of prednisone was a few pounds more, was gone in like three weeks, same thing the second year post-op.
This time I stopped it mid-February, lost almost nothing, had surgery, gained even more in two days! and again, it's still here after three months. So annoying!

I only saw my weight going down for real when I stopped my high dosage of PPI for five days...but then my asthma was coming back...so no choice for now...back on PPI!!! even cutting 20% of my calories does nothing...(BMR supposed to be 1800, usually eating around 1600....eating 1200 does nothing...so weird) anyway...at some point before 2025 I will get my stomach repaired (plus my new hernias too), will be able to stop the PPI...and I will be on liquids for a few weeks, I'm sure it will get down by itselfat that point...argh...I wished I could exercise, that would also help...

Sandra3 - Can you add in another drug to help reduce the dose of the PPI? How about adding in a Histamine-2 blocker like famotidine (Pepcid) or ranitidine (Zantac). There are also the "coating" drugs like Gaviscon or carafate, not sure about these with the sleeve but may be worth asking about. Another option is deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL). Licorice coats and soothes the stomach, my previous boss (Gastro MD) used to prescribe this fairly often with good results. It's available over the counter. Also, Melatonin supplementation may help, especially if symptoms occur mostly at night. Melatonin increases LES tone (the tone of the lower esophageal sphincter) as the body wants to keep acid in the stomach when we lie down to sleep. You can take anywhere from 1mg up to 10 mg at night. As far as I know, no contraindications with the sleeve. Might be worth looking into.

I tried everything under the sun to lower the PPI. H2 is not working at all (plus there is a risk of lung infection), and I actually take the "coating" Gaviscon(gel) on top of the highest dosage of PPI for six months.

My exams did show my results (Phmetrie) are the highest possible, and my reflux would be worth at night if I sleept in a bed, which I can't do, I sleep seating down since November ...or I wake up chocking when I slip ...so on top of everything my back is killing me..(and pain get my reflux worth..)

I tried the licorice and many other natural remedies (I'm currently finishing my naturopathy degree) months ago...but I have to acknowledge that so far nothing "natural" is working... it would probably if it was only reflux without the hernia...

But I didn't know about the melatonin, I will look into it!! thank you for the tip!
at this point since my hiatal hernia is the main issue, I'm not sure the LES tone would change anything...but it's a good idea...
