Default Post-op Day #5 and 12 lbs lost

Curiosity got the better of me and I checked the scale today. I was 226 lbs on the morning of surgery and I'm 214 (or less) today. I don't want to get hung up on the numbers because I know weight varies depending upon time of day, fluid/electrolyte balance, bowel status, hormone fluctuations, etc. Plus, it's a journey, not a race and I want to focus on the non-scale victories. Just nice to know that it's heading in the right direction.

That’s exciting! Good idea with the scale. I was a slave to the scale for the first 4 months and I had to stop daily weighing.

Oh, hell! Weigh yourself. I'm all about NSVs, too. But it's the scale victories I initially signed up for.

    LOL!

I weighed only once a week while losing, because little fluctuations really bothered me. If I gained a little I'd be depressed and drive my husband crazy. Weighing only once a week was almost always a delightful surprise! I think in the 9 months it took me to lose the weight I only gained 2 weeks and stayed the same 2 weeks. Otherwise it went down, and fast. I kept it in a journal, still look at it for fun!

I weighed myself a week later and then daily for another 2 weeks. It drove me crazy so I gave my scale to my mom and told her not to bring it to me for a month. Best decision I could have made at that time because it made me focus. Now I weigh once a week.

Listen, watching that scale go down a pound sometimes two pounds a day was like a miracle! I kept a journal and recorded my weight every single day for months. It's an exciting time. Enjoy it!

The addiction to weighing is real...lol... I also think it's a great motivator in the beginning and understanding the times it doesn't move is also a learning experience. Tracking what you're drinking, eating, etc. and then tracking the weight on the scale, teaches some the differences in foods and how they affect the body. At this stage, the "honeymoon" period (first year) weighing was so motivating for me and I'd set small goals, like this week I'd like to lose 2 pounds, etc. I also would concentrate on the emotional part of the journey which is very powerful! You'll find your balance as you move forward as things don't happen overnight.
Continued success and enjoy the journey

Great news on your loss so far - it will just keep getting better.

I'm totally addicted to weighing. Have weighed myself every day since surgery and continue to do so because I don't want any nasty surprises.
I record my weight on a spreadsheet too - bit ocd really!
I'm ok with the small fluctuations - I allow myself about 1/2 kilo before I start looking at what I'm doing differently.

If you don't think that you can handle fluctuations or stalls (they will happen) then only weigh when you want to.
