Default My Journey To Mexico 6/10/19

Hello everyone! I’m scheduled to fly to San Diego on 6/10. My surgery is scheduled for 6/12 in Tijuana with Dr. Miguel Montalvo. I started my pre op diet yesterday. Currently, I’m a size 16, 5’3, 197 pounds. I’ve tried every diet known to man and nothing has worked. I’m a binge eater. I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol and am pre diabetic. Heart disease is rampant in my family so I know if I don’t get rid of this weight, eat right and exercise that’s what’s in store. I’m 44 and have been overweight the majority of my life. This surgery will mark the beginning of my new life. I’m excited, nervous...you name it!! I’m done with feeling sluggish, tired and overall unhealthy. Any ideas to spice up the pre op diet? I started yesterday and I wasn’t hungry at all, in fact, I couldn’t drink the evening protein shake. The lack of flavor has me not wanting to eat at all (I’m not sure that’s a bad thing, but still!) Thanks in advance for any input!!

Welcome to the start of a healthier life!

I don’t remember wanting to spice up the pre-op diet. I just followed directions ;-) I also found that I wasn’t hungry at all.

Best of luck as you embark on this amazing journey!

    Hi Michelle!

Yes, I have to be on it until 3 days before my surgery, then its strictly clear liquids. It's 3 protein shakes a day. A small salad for lunch and a protein and veggie for dinner. I've read that it''s to prepare the liver for the surgery. So no pre-op diet? Did you do the clear liquids before?

No, they didn't have me do anything special for a pre-op diet before my surgery. Not even for 24 hours. I ate normal food until 11pm the night before.

Oh wow! Well, probably just a precaution or something then. Congratulations on your continued success! What would you say the biggest change in your life has been since the weight loss?

Most people have had to do the pre-op diet. I was confused why I didn't have to but I didn't argue or ask any questions. lol
Thank you! Hmmm... I guess I'd say my back pain first but that runs a close race with the fact that I've finally been able to see that I'm addicted to food. I've started counseling for it so that I don't gain the weight back. When my kids wrap their arms around me and can link their fingers together, they get excited about it. That alone makes me want to stay on track.

Welcome to the group! My situation is very similar to yours. I am 48 with high blood pressure, pre-diabetes, high cholesterol and decades of yo-yo dieting. I have horrible heart disease on both sides of my family, plus diabetes, obesity, cancers, thyroid disorders. I want to be HEALTHY more than anything and I despise the way I feel. I just had my surgery on Thursday and I'm so glad to be on my way to a new life! The pre-op diet sucks! I hated every minute of it and did slip up here and there. It's supposed to help shrink your liver and make the stomach easier to work on during the actual surgical procedure. Every surgeon is different with their pre-op requirements. Just keep plugging along with it and the surgery date will be here before you know it.

Aww..thats amazing!! Definitely a reason to keep on track!! I'm forward thinking in that direction as well...as far as talking to someone about it after. It's weird because I can go from not eating much to if there's something I want, I can out eat a 300 pound man! Although, I can't STAND nausea, I mean can't stand...So I'm hoping that's going to be a big help in me not overeating! I know nausea is common after the surgery, were they able to give you like a zofran or anti-nausea after the surgery to help?

Hi Jess! Congratulations!! You must be so happy to be finished with the surgery!! I imagine with the extra weight off, our blood pressure will come down and eating healthier should help with our cholesterol and blood sugar!! I'm looking forward to being able to work out and tone! How are you feeling??

    I’m in North Florida. You?

My situation was similar to yours(except for age)...height, weight,co-morbidities and all. They’re all gone and have been since about 9 months out.

This is one of the best decisions I ever made for myself. I now enjoy a lifestyle I had lost...I was blessed with a tool that has given me a new lease on life!

Cyndi, That's SO amazing! What an inspiration!! Any anxiety I feel over the surgery can't compare to the anxiety I feel about continuing on in this unhealthy body! Thank you for sharing that, it reinforces all of my reasons for moving forward and doing what's necessary. I'm in the Orlando area!
