Bariatric surgery is on first intention made for people who have a BMI superior to 40, or 35 with comorbidities. Meaning most have a fatty liver.
Because of that most people will have a pre-op diet, and depending on their weight it can go from a few days to several weeks.
I was morbidly obese and my surgeon advised me to try to lose a little before the pre-op diet, which I did. I was supposed to have 3 weeks of pre-op diet, and had "only" two.
The first three days were not easy but it got better. I kept in mind that my liver was fatty and could brittle when lifted during the surgery. That idea made me really compliant.
Drinking a lot of water will also help with detoxing.
About nausea, anesthesia with on top surgery on the stomach will give nausea to a few unfortunate patients. Best thing to do is to address that issue during the anesthesia consult pre-op, they can inject you meds even before the surgery.
Good luck and take care
