Can you lose too much weight during pre surgery diet?

I did the six month diet, and at the end of it my BMI was 40.1. I was scheduled for the procedure, insurance has approved me, and I started my pre-op diet. With this liquid diet, I am losing weight very quickly. I've lost 18 lbs in the 6 days I've been on liquid. With my BMI already being on the cusp of 40, I'm worried now that I may lose too much weight.

My doctor's office is closed for the holiday until Tuesday. I'll call Tuesday, but I'm wondering if any of you have any experience with this?

Should my weight loss taper off?

Will a surgeon not do the procedure if my BMI drops too much during pre-op diet?

My insurance being different from most in here, they would only check the first weight in when I met the surgeon the very first time. I had to send my papers then.

But I know a few of our friends in here explained that they had to stay under a certain weight at the end of the six months. Someone said they had to put heavy weight in their pockets, drinks lots before the weight in, have little salt with water the day before etc...

If you are on the edge, no need to worry you will find out on Tuesday. In the mean time continue what you are doing, three days will improve your liver for sure. When is your surgery?

I was self pay, so I didn't have to worry about all this silly stuff. They want you to lose weight before surgery but not too much?

No hoops was fun. Expensive but fun.

As long as I stayed above a BMI of 30, I was fine.

I went back through my instruction book and the pre-op diet/weight loss importance is about improving your liver (only). There’s no mention of needing to stay at a certain BMI.

I was self pay and I didn’t have to worry about insurance being involved. Even so, once I was “approved”, no one said I could be unapproved.
