    Default Sleeve questions and concerns

Hey, I'm Lana. I'm currently 205lbs 5'5 (BMI 34). I am looking into having the gastric sleeve done in Mexico; however, I was curious if anyone around my height/size has had it done? Even others own experiences. If you have, what has been your experience with loosing the weight? Who was your doctor? What's your biggest struggle? Do you stick to your diet strictly or have some cheat moments? Do you regret anything? What was the pain like after surgery and during recovery? Can you or do you exercise? How do you avoid getting loose skin (particular exercises, certain foods, anything else)?

So you are one of the smaller sleevers. Most people on here have BMI's 40+ or at least well over 35. Most surgeons in the US will not do it for under a 35 BMI. As for the pain, I have a hard time coming out of anesthesia but I knew I had issues with anesthesia. As for actual pain, I only took my pain meds like 3 or 4 times the first week and no issues after that. Mostly the nausea is the worst the first week. It does get a little easier each day though and it really is not that bad. I only regret waiting so long to go for it. I thought about it forever before I finally got the nerve to call and make a consult appointment. I had my surgery here in the US.

If you have not already done so, I think that it is important that you go to a seminar given by a bariatric team so that you get a real clear cut idea on pre-sleeve and post sleeve life. For me, I had no complications at all and there was virtually no pain. Once you are sleeved, you have to go through the various phases of eating foods, liquids first, purees, soft foods, etc., before you move into eating a regular meal. Also, there is no need to cheat as you will be able to enjoy what you like, just be mindful of the fact that the sleeve is merely a tool, you still have to put in the work.

    Welcome Lana!

    I started at about your weight (I was 214) and I’m shorter(5’2”)...

I read everything I could on the forum, watched the videos people here talked about, went to a couple of seminars, chose a surgeon (in St Augustine FL) and was sleeved in less than a month.

I had a lot of complications (not due to surgery), so initially I was hospitalized a long time.

I lost all my weight and then some before my 1 year surgiversary.

My only regret is that I waited until I was 63.

I do not struggle. This tool (sleeve) has given me a new toolkit.

Best of luck as you embark on this amazing journey ;-)
