    Default What works for me

You guys know I'm basically a human garbage disposal. I never intended to give up eating the foods I want/crave when I had WLS, so I didn't. I didn't know I was going to end up craving junk more than ever after surgery, but here we are. I eat anything and everything I want. Despite not following the "rules," I have been quite successful at keeping my weight down. I'm not an anomaly either, as my mother, father, and daughter do the same...they even drink soda. (I've never cared for soda.)

So, for the first 3 years, I could eat whatever and still lose. Didn't matter how many bags or chips, candy, cookies, or pop tarts I ate, i couldn't gain weight. That's all changed now. I can and do gain it. That has not deterred me from eating what i want. It has, however, made me be more conscious of it. If my weight has climbed, I eat less junk during the week. The weekends are still a free for all, anything goes. I took that to the extreme this past weekend, so it's a buckle down week. Here's how I buckle down to get the extra weight off:

    Monday after Mother's Day
    IMG_20190514_10569.jpg

One for breakfast - 8:30 am - noon. One for lunch - 2pm - 5 PM. And one bottle of water from 12pm - 2pm.
    IMG_20190514_15187.jpg

Dinner - Spinach, iceberg, smoked turkey, bell peppers, cucumber, tomatoes, Catalina fat free dressing
    IMG_20190514_16600.jpg

That's it. No more food for the day.

    Tuesday morning
    IMG_20190514_23680.jpg

3 pounds gone, 3 to go. I will repeat the 2 protein shakes and salad for dinner until all the extra pounds are gone. Easy peasy. Then the weekend comes again

Edit to add: I only do this when I've gained 5 pounds or more which isn't very often. A typical week would be the protein shakes and whatever I want for dinner and a late night snack of doritos and mentos.

Great that you know what works for you Katrina.
Might not work for everyone....but then it doesn't have to :-)

Doritos......yum. Can't have them in the house or I will eat them until they are gone ;-)

I hate you. No, not really, I am just jealous. When I gain a few it takes FOREVER to get it off. But I do it.

No, it absolutely won't work for everyone as we all have to find our own way that works. I've had to make adjustments, too as things change. It's not as easy to keep off as before, so I have to be a bit more diligent. I get grumpy when I know it's a salad only week, but I know I'll get my goodies on the weekend.

Srae, it was harder for me in March. It took about a month for me to buckle down and lose the weight I gained over my birthday weekend. Some days I just say screw it and ruin the whole day with garbage food at bedtime. I have to be super strict and make sure to take tylenol PM at bedtime (so I dont get up for snacks ) if I want to make sure to get it off. I'm extra motivated by a trip to Destin at the end of the month where I'm going to be in a bathing suit around tons of people. Also, you're a total WLS rockstar, and I admire your commitment to success.

I've said it before, but I swear cutting out carbs when you have surgery leads to never being able to have them again. I hear all the time of the people doing Atkins or similar and gaining it all back when they smell a carb. I never cut them out, so my body had to figure out how to adapt to losing with them. Obviously this is just my opinion and my experience.

I cut carbs when I was in the losing process but now pretty much eat what I want...carbs included and have no issues maintaining. I think my ability is because I work out 6 days a week with predominantly strength training with a little cardio.

Katrina: Kudos for finding out what works for you. I think I'm still discovering or at least paying more attention. It's amazing how as many of us as there is on this forum, everyone's journey is so different. There is just not one set of rules that works for everyone.

Without exercise I would be fat again within weeks. I'm so excited that after a long road trip and visit with family I didn't gain an ounce! I didn't eat perfectly (actually far from perfectly) but hiked a minimum of 5 miles a day with elevation.

I won't speak for Katriana, but I would GUESS she doesn't exercise constantly. Sounds like she is busy being the caregiver for her daughter.

I'm glad you've found what works for you! I hope the WLS gods bestow the same luck on me (lol Lisa) - but I'm sure they won't.

Just want to say how much I LOVE Destin! The most beautiful beaches anywhere with its crystal white super-soft sand. I'm sure you'll be rocking a bikini there!

    Wednesday morning
    IMG_20190515_23318.jpg

Day two of buckle down week is in the books. One pound to go. I ate the same thing yesterday that I did on Monday. Only yesterday I added the leftover sirloin from my Mother's Day brunch into my salad.

Sraebaer, I was thinking... do you gain your few extra pounds over a longer period of time? I gain mine in a two - three day period, so I figure that's why I'm able to take it off in that same amount of time. Is there any logic behind that thinking?

I do not exercise AT ALL. With the exception of the 3 months my daughter Meg was in the hospital where I walked an ungodly amount, I have only hit 6,000 steps twice. I'm allergic to strenuous activity. I'm am a constant ball of stress and worry though, so maybe all that anxiety burns up some calories.

PS I'm going to wash those filthy baseboards you can see in the scale pictures today. Does that count as exercise?

Katrina, I am quite certain you have the metabolism that was meant for me, lol. I'm trying to find my way with maintenance. It appears that if I am too strict about carbs, I go up (which makes no sense) and then adding some back, I lose. But I may be crazy.

    Still finding my way!

    Thursday morning - goal!!
    IMG_20190516_22916.jpg

It took me 3 fulls days to go from 121.6 to 115.8. Now it's Thursday and that means I go home tonight. Home is where I go hog wild with all the snacks. I'm kind of on the fence of if i want to eat whatever strikes my fancy tonight or stick to the salad just to see if I can go lower. I've been starving all day as I missed my lunchtime protein shake. I'll post tomorrow's scale showings to see what I decided.
