    Default Finally

Started this last June. All boxes checked and surgery date of dec 27, 2018. Surgeon heard a heart murmur he wanted to get checked out so had a TEE and cardiologist discovered I had a ruptured aortic aneurysm (luckily it was at the sinus of valsalva, so I was just bleeding back into my right atrium instead of bleeding out). Heart surgery immediately scheduled, I had to go out of state for surgery because it is a rare and involved surgery and no one around my area had performed it. On bipass pump for >6 hours and surgeon discovered my aortic valve leaflets were trash, so new valve too. Now, 5 months after heart surgery I have been cleared for the sleeve. Surgery date set for July 23rd, 2019.

Wow, glad it was discovered. My dad had a lower aeorta transplant, I wonder if that's the same thing. Back then (around 1978) the only people who did it were heart surgeon pioneer DeBakey and his cardiac team in Houston, so dad had to travel. Saved his life!

Yeah, average life span once ruptured is 2-4 years...I had it over 12, had a bulging carotid artery in my neck for 12+, cardiologist says thats when it ruptured.

Holy crap! That is so crazy!! I'm surprised you didn't have any major symptoms (other than the bulging carotid artery, of course). Such an amazing story - I'm sure you realize how incredibly lucky you are. Five months is not a very long recovery time after such major cardiac surgery - especially with the 6 hours of bypass time AND the surprise new valve! It's great that you are cleared for sleeve surgery - you have so much to look forward to. So glad you are here. This is such a wonderful group. Welcome!

Only symptom was shortness of breath..but I just thought it was because of being fat. BP was a little high but other than that I was great. No diabetes, cholesterol was always great. I just turned 43 so I figure that helped too.

Wow what a great catch you made with your heart issues! My Dr. said he had several patients discover cancer, heart issues, etc. during the pre op testing that might have gone unknown had it not been for the all the test reports. Thankfully you have a healthy heart now and are heading into the surgery. Congratulations! I know you're probably ready to get the show on the road. Best of luck to you.

Start 2 week diet tomorrow, July 9th, surgery July 23th. Just started telling family yesterday that my wife is pregnant with #3. Due Jan 12th 2020. Suprise! I'm 43. I'm gonna get some side by sides of us before surgery and see the changes by then. Hopefully she will be bigger than me! I'm currently about 265 and she's not even 130. Lol.. new kid will not even know me as obese, kinda strange to think about.

Congratulations on a new baby......what a wonderful blessing. How wonderful (and I understand when you say 'strange') to think about feeling and looking completely different for this child's arrival. The sleeve is such a life changing event and you should be well into your journey and success by then. You'll have so much more energy I bet! Best of luck to you and keep us posted.
