    Default feeling fat

HI! Does anyone who has lost almost all the weight they wanted to lose, still feel fat? Although the scale says I am 1kg off my personal target weight, I still feel fat. I think it has to do with the loose skin. It might also have to do with hormones. I know its all irrational, but its how I feel.

    Hi Ellie,

Been there, done that, it is hard and complex....dysmorphia is a real thing, and since it's been recent, you had your sleeve one year ago, it does take time for body image and mind to "sync in".

I felt the same, even when I reached my surgeon's target weight, at two years. Sometimes even if I was ten size smaller compare to my HW, I felt bigger than before the sleeve. Crazy right???

I felt that what really helped was intense exercise when I could (kind of like to feel your body, for example doing big Spring cleaning that I was not able to do at my biggest, but also stay on a bike without falling was a big thing too) but what worked even better was massages.

During a trip in Bali, where it was so cheap, I had like 20 massages in one month. I felt amazing, and I didn't feel huge any more, even if my weight was the same, give or take two pounds.

So there is many things that you can do to help, but also getting smaller jeans is a good thing too. It will help visually.

It definitely takes a minute for the mind and body to catch up to each other. Even in a size 8 or a size 10 I would look in the mirror and still see a size 16W person. You'll get there. Give it some time.

I feel more "normal" as the years go on. But early on I'd stare at a mirror and not believe that was me.

Yesterday I saw a couple of photos of me that were taken recently and I had to really look to make sure it was me. The person was tiny. Now I'm not saying that to blow my own trumpet, more that I still don't really see myself as that small person. It really does take some time to get mind and body together.
I sort of like that it is still a pleasant surprise to see myself in a photo, or the mirror. :-)

I used to feel fat. Then after a while I began to feel too skinny. Finally I am feeling just right. And I do think for a while I did look too skinny as I look back on the pictures. The strength training has helped me to see my body as strong and healthy. And it is not uncommon at all. I also agree with Sharon that as time goes on I feel more normal in my body...probably because I am getting more used to it.
