Default Can your sleeve be "reset" ?

I am almost 5 years out from my gastric sleeve surgery. I initially lost 80 lbs, now am 25 lbs up from that. Having trouble over the past year and a half with staying on my diet plan, which shows in my weight gain. Really need a support group to get back on track with this. Does anyone have a "jump start" for resetting my sleeve? Can something like this even be done? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

From what I've read online (and I've read threads by folks who've even regained ALL their pre-sleeve weight, then lost every bit of it a second time) you really must get back to your eating-with-a-sleeve basics.

I don't mean you have to drop to 400 - 800 calories again. Just commit "unreasonably" to your new weight loss goal(s), eat healthy (whatever that is for you -- can be keto, low carb, lower calories, whatever), cut out all the CRAP that pretends to be food or that triggers your appetite, gradually and consistently move your patootie more, be accountable (whatever or however that works for you), and accept that you're not crash-dieting but rebuilding your healthy lifestyle.

From my experience, after a week of "cutting back" -- for me that means at least 100 grams daily of protein, lots of low-starch veggies and no bread, crackers, cheese, or added sugar -- my good old sleeve (I'm five years out, like you) limits my intake and appetite noticeably stronger than when I'm on vacation and partying like it's 1999.

That way, after party-hearty vacations I can lose 1-2 pounds a week until I'm back to goal.

Having to lose 25 pounds isn't so bad. After all, look how much you lost after WLS. Honestly, losing regain (a little or a lot) is just another skill that I think we WLS patients must learn how to do and not be so freaked out about it.

We could call it the Graduate School version of WLS.

    Very best to you.

Kick the bad carbs first. Focus on protein, veggies, and fluids. Get moving.

Just dig out your old materials and eat how a sleeved person should eat. Drink water, but don't drink with meals. Cut the crap. Take your vitamins. Exercise. You can do it, you still have restriction when you eat protein first, then veggies, then good carbs.

I went back to Weight Watchers to help with a slight gain, now I'm under goal. It really worked for me, because I'm not good at counting calories or anything like that. They have an app that does it all for you. They eat exactly how we were taught with a sleeve, but we have the advantage of getting filled up quicker.

You can do it, it's basically re-setting your mind! Good luck!

Like Ann said, get back to basics. Cut the crap, dig out your sleeve bible. You can do it. I'm working on a regain as well, so I'm in the same boat as you!

Thank you to everyone. I did what everyone said...going back to the basics. After one week, I am 4.6 pounds lighter. Going through the carb flu was rough, but here I am on the other side of it. wow! Thanks so much. It doesn't seem impossible to me anymore. TY! TY! TY!

I am glad you did not waist time and/or money on that so called "reset" thing.
    Good for you!
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

eured, just saw your last response above. Good job! Great start! You can do it.

Like I said before, losing regain really should be called the "Graduate School of WLS Success"! Just use the same skills as before. Same focus as before. Same consistency, dedication, and motivation as before.

The only way to fail is not to keep starting over every day and do what needs to be done that day.

I have not been on here for quite some time. I have regained some weight, even though I swore I never would. Coming back onto the forum and reading the reminders is very encouraging!

"Lee, by "own it!" your daughter means that you should be proud of your accomplishment and understand that you deserve this. Not because you have to pay it forward or backward to justify your own benefits. She means that this is YOUR accomplishment, and accomplishing that for yourself is enough. You do not have to fix everybody. And you do not owe anyone for the benefits you have earned. They are YOURS!" Ann2
