    Default Use of NSAIDS

Gastric Sleevers are to stop using NSAIDS. This was bad news for me but for 6 years I have followed.
There are some instances where I have been advised to take them until I remind them I am a GS veteran, then that is rescinded and changed to Tylenol.
I am wondering if this is a lifetime directive or have any of you been okayed by a medical professional that you can sparingly take NSAID again?
I am currently experiencing a severe lower back sprain for which NSAIDS are the only effective non-RX relief. I need an anti-inflammatory, not Tylenol. I cannot sleep because of pain and rest is the #1 need to heal. I will have to decide for myself as to the risk vs. reward but wondering what others have been advised or warned on this subject.
    Thank you for any info.

    Well, it is strange.
My surgeon does not mind if I take them.
Not every day, only for a brief period and always with Omeprazol or something simular.
There actually is one hospital in the Netherlands that prescribes NSIASD directly after the WLS surgery, when you are still in the hospital.
So, there is no medical consensus.

I have taken some from time to time.
No longer than a day or three/four though.
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

I have a green light for NSAIDs also. I was advised to take the liquigels. I take Omeprazole dissolvable.

I hope you soon get the relief you need to rest comfortably :-)

My NSAIDs instructions (from a US surgeon) five years ago (and annually by his Nurse Practitioner who's totally up-to-date on all things bariatric) is that sleeved patients are not to take NSAIDs very often and CERTAINLY not daily like I did for my sore knees at least 20-30 years prior to WLS.

These days if I do sprain a muscle (inflammed) that needs to cool down and heal, I do take an Aleve. No problems here from that.

My general practitioner gives me the same advice: No NSAIDs regularly, but can use them occasionally.

    Hope you feel better soon.

I have never been told by my surgeon that I can't use any type of pain relief/anti inflammatory. Thankfully I haven't needed to but I would now check beforehand to make sure it was ok.

My surgeon says it’s a no-no because of the risk for ulcers and bleeding. I think the Omeprazole is a good idea and the advice to use sparingly is spot on.

My surgeon said I can use sparingly but not daily. I never take more than 2 at a time. But I have found that i don't need it as much as I used to. I think with 100 pounds less fat and less foods that cause inflammation it’s really helped my chronic pain. I also still take prevacid daily, for chronic acid reflex (better since I had a hernia repair).

I was approved to use it one time (forgot the injury) as long as I also took a Prilosec at the same time.

I had a young relative hospitalized for a bleeding ulcer from NSAIDS, and she was not a bariatric patient. Turns out she hadn't read the fine print that they are to be taken with food.

I'm happy just not taking them.

So I have seen mixed reviews about this subject. My surgeon's paperwork said to "avoid taking on a REGULAR basis" not to never take them again. I usually will use Tylenol unless I really need an NSAID. I am also attaching an article I found regarding the subject from a bariatric site.
