Default Gained all my weight back revision for gastric sleeve

I have gained all my weight back from gastric sleeve surgery. 2014 I weighed 244 lost down to 168 now I’m back up to 230 pounds. I didn’t have as much restriction on my sleeve surgery due to a lap band removal then the gastric sleeve done at the same time. My sleeve was not as small as it should have been, because of the damage my stomach had from the Lapband. I never had much restriction. I am looking into revision surgery to make my sleeve smaller. I live in Ky and would like to find a surgeon that does this type of revision.

Best of luck, but it's risky to have another revision and some insurances don't cover the revisions. Have you thought about using a medication like Saxenda or anything similar. Also, have you tried going back on the pre op diet and seeing if you can't jump-start the process again. We do lap band removals and revise to sleeves with great success, so I'm not sure what happened during your surgery. The restriction may still be there but if the motivation and behavioral changes don't happen, even a 3rd surgery might not work. I'm not trying to be rude or mean, but it's all true and I work in a large bariatric hospital and see this happen all the time.
I really do wish you success on your journey!

Not to be harsh, but if you didn't follow the rules the first time and regained all your weight, what makes you think you will be successful the second time? Are you going to have surgery every 5 years the rest of your life? You still have a small stomach, go back to how you should be eating and see what happens. Exercise. Work it. You can do this. You must have had insurance, because I was self-pay and there is no way I would throw all that money down the drain by not changing my lifestyle. (Or my husband just might kill me). And I'm not saying it's easy, it's not. I have to work the program every day, and surgery was 5 1/2 years ago.

I have turned into someone who recommends Weight Watchers for sleeved people struggling with their weight. It is basically exactly how we are to eat. Tracking is a no-brainer, there is an app that does it all. You can take a photo of every bar code, look up any restaurant, so easy. I like the accountability of standing on a scale each week. Just an idea, worked for me. Plus it's easier for me to stick to because I get full quicker, especially when I'm eating my protein first at every meal. (My little secret advantage over the typical Weight Watcher....)

jerzeygirl, not familiar with Saxenda. I struggle with little restriction even though I’m 35 days out, wonder if the Lapband removal to sleeve has something to do with it? Could this prescription offer a solution?

Saxenda is a weight loss drugs. Weight loss drugs are gimmicks that do not work. I fell for phen-phen back in the 90's, lost a ton of weight and gained it all back when the drug was pulled off the market for causing serious heart damage.

Good luck to you. Did they tell you that you had a bigger sleeve side or is that what you think happened?

Yes, the lapband erosion. He was not able to make as small a sleeve as he usually does. Plus I’m just a food addicted person. I let my emotions get the best of me. I lost 2 sisters, 1 brother, my niece , two nephews, my sister in law , my brother in law. Three career changes. Now retired. My husband has beginning stages of dementia, my life got a little out of control. This all in 3 years. I’m on wellbrutin now for depression. I am working hard to get back on track with my life.

But if you lost 76 pounds you must have a smaller stomach, I think if you start over you could lose your weight again.

So sorry about all your losses and your husband. Dementia is heartbreaking for the caregiver. When I was dealing with my mom I attended a caregivers support group that really helped. The leader was a nurse who specialized in dementia. I learned so much and it felt good to talk to others (and cry together) in my same situation. I learned a lot of little things, like just keep answering the same question even if they ask it every few minutes. Or don't "quiz" them, like every time I'd visit I'd ask my mom what she had for lunch, when she obviously had no clue. Good luck! Try to take some time out for your self-care, you are important and worth it.
