    Default One step closer!

I’m new to this group although i have been reading your posts for several months. I’ve just not posted til now. The wait for surgery is killing me! I’ve never been good at waiting. 😀 On the bright side, I’ve completed my 6 month appointments and waiting to hear I’ve been approved by my insurance. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and hearing your stories.

Welcome Vickey! The wait is the WORST. But on the bright side....surgeon's offices know exactly what to do to make sure you get approved. They know that stuff inside and out. They do not make money if you do not have the surgery so you should be good. Hang in there and try not to dwell on it. When you get that approval call you will feel like you won the lottery!!

Welcome Vickey! Once you’ve completed all the requirements, it’s all downhill from there. You’ll be surprised just how fast the time will go once you get the surgery. I can’t believe I’m already a month out, it seems like yesterday I just started all my appointments to qualify. This is a great forum to post your questions/concerns. Good luck!

Bellagirl, thank you. I’ve lost 45 lbs in these last 6 months, will I still need to do some type of pre op liquid diet?

    Exciting time for you!
My opinion on the pre op diet: do it anyway.
It is not for loosing weight, it is to shrink your liver.
That is really important, because it give the surgeon a better view at her/his work field.
The more your liver shrinks, the better.
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

DutchSleeve, thank you for your reply. I will do the liquid diet. I don’t mind losing more before surgery anyhow I have a lot of weight to lose.

The point of the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver by having nothing but fluids prior to surgery. Some doctor say a week, others say three days. I opted to do the seven just to be sure everything was OK. You sound like you’re off to a good start, 45 pounds is great!

Well the office called and it seems that I need one more dietitian appointment to be safe. it’s just a 2 more week wait but I’m so disappointed. I was really hoping for a June surgery date.

Vickey congratulations on your decision for surgery. I was so much like you, once I knew I wanted to do it, I wanted it done RIGHT NOW. lol

I did take the time while waiting to read up and mentally prepare myself as much as possible. I think education is power and the more you know the better equipped you'll be. It's a great feeling to be excited and wish you all the success! Keep us posted.

Welcome! The best thing is you have insurance, many of us didn't. Saving thousands of dollars is definitely worth waiting for.

Coopersmom, thank you! I am reading and trying to educate myself. I do like to hear people’s personal stories. Their successes and failures so I learn what to do and what not to do. Thank you for your reply and encouragement!

Thank you! You are so right about having an attitude of gratitude. I think I let fear set in because I was finally finished with being accountable of losing weight on my own. I felt like I could breathe some because that part was over.
