So I had my surgery on Monday and I am doing very well. Doctor told me to move to full liquids today.
Any advice or suggestions or warnings the group wants to give me.
Thanks
Just take it slowly, one sip at the time.
When you try new things, pick one at the time.
In case it doesn't agree with you, you know exactly which one to avoid for the time being.
Take plenty of time between sips and wait what happens.
Listen to your stomach.
If something does not taste good, don't swallow it, spit it out.
Really, there usually is a reason.
Exiting times for you ahead!
Welcome! And congratulations!!! I only drank my shakes and water on the full liquid. I waited for soft food stage to start sugar free pudding. For the first 2 weeks i only had shakes, water, jello, broth and sugar free popsicles. Take advantage of not really having an appetite right now. Certainly helps. I'm 3 months out, down 66 lbs.
Eggs are the only food that makes me nauseous. Have no idea why. I used to LOVE eggs. Dr says to just keep trying in the future. I felt better with warm drinks in the beginning. Like the broth went down faster than my water or shakes. Good luck. I have found that i have a completely different relationship with food now. I can barely make it thru half a sandwich and i am full for hours and hours. This surgery definitely works.
Try different temperatures. I only did well with room temperature and warm liquids the first week or so. Others prefer cold. So if one temperature bothers you try another. Small sips. You will have to sip frequently because you will not be able to take much in at a time. Time. It will take time to adjust to the new sleeve. Do everything slowly to allow yourself to feel your new full. It will be shocking how little it will take.
Water your protein shakes and drink them slowly. This is actually a time to listen to your surgery tool and don't move too quickly from one stage to another. It's a proven fact that people who move too quickly, don't lose as much or have as much restriction going forward. It's a good time to remember your tummy is still healing and "practice" getting your head into the game of your new lifestyle. The first 9-12 months is the "honeymoon" period and it's a perfect opportunity to get some things "straight" head-wise and tool-wise.
Continued success!!
I think it's ironic that I loved eggs before surgery and couldn't wait to try them when I finally got to that stage, however; one lightly scrambled egg felt like a baseball in my chest and I couldn't eat eggs for a good year and 1/2! Now I like them hard boiled, egg salad or maybe a scrambled one now and then; go figure Continued success!!
Christie,
I still like my beverages on the warm side and used to love cold. In the summer I loved iced tea and now rarely if ever have that. It's so weird (for lack of a better word) how our bodies change after surgery. You're a great role model and advocate for the healthy lifestyle!
