    Default Easter Temptations

    Happy Easter everyone!

It is Good Friday here so breakfast this morning was a delicious Hot Cross Bun. I made sure that it was a really good quality one and I had it toasted with butter. Yum! I am now done with them. I don't fancy any more nor will I have another one.

I won an Easter hamper at work yesterday. My partner and I had a couple of the smaller eggs last night (a little early I know!). They tasted great. I am now done with them too.

Before surgery I would have kept eating them all until they were gone - even though I wasn't hungry - or really even wanted them. I would eat them because they were there.

I love the fact that now I can have a little of something that I fancy but that is all I need/want.

The thought of chocolate after those eggs last night doesn't thrill me at all. The grandkids are going to love the extra bonus of chocolate bunnies and eggs coming their way

Total denial doesn't work for me....nor do I want it to. A small treat now and again is fun and I'm glad that I am now in total control of what goes in my mouth.

    Loving this new life!

Sounds like you are doing a great job! The way you are eating is exactly how I want to eat after I have surgery. I want to be able to enjoy a small amount of almost anything without over doing it - be healthy and in-control.

    Happy Easter Lisa!

I do remember those Hot Cross Bun from my stay in NZ! so delish!!!

I do think, each time I have a "temptation" that I'm so lucky to have the help of the sleeve, for example after my meal I usually don't have dessert because I'm full with my half plate or less. Before the sleeve I was still hungry after one plate and even if I was trying to eat right, I was eating too much in quantity.

    Way to go Lisa!

I don't care much for chocolate, so for me it is easy not to eat it.
But the total denial thing works best for me.
I consider myself a food addict.
So for me it is best not to touch anything that I know will make me fail.
I set myself up for succes.
    I know myself...
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

I’m kind of stuck in the middle of both schools of thought. I know I should practice absolute denial because once I have a bite then I want more. But I’m afraid if I did go ahead and have a bite I will just set myself up to fail. I’m still at the point where I am severely addicted to food and I am seeing someone professionally for it. Easter will be a test to see if I can pass up temptation as we cook a huge family feast and it’s all food I used to love to eat (and eat a lot of it too).

Happy Easter to all who celebrate, Chag Pesach Sameach to those who celebrate and happy holidays to all others. This weekend is a huge eating fest for me, as we have to consume huge amounts of matza and wine/grapejuice before we even begin the often 4 course meal. The other part which is awful, is that the start of the festive meal only begins with a huge reading bit at 8.55pm and we will probably only start eating around 10pm/10.30pm. I am not sure yet what I will do, as allot of people at the dinner will not know I have had surgery and it will be difficult to explain why I am not partaking in all the rituals ( too many to go into ). As for partaking of treats, I have the mindset that a little treat here and there is ok, its as long as you don't gorge on the foods. I do however avoid crisps, as they were my biggest downfall and I am scared that if I have one it will lead back to my addiction. I don't have the same craving as before though and I find chocolate too sweet and don't even enjoy it if I have it. One bite of something to stop me feeling deprived while others have, is enough for me. I do find I can eat more now, but I am able to stop before getting full and I now have a full sensation. I hope I can continue to maintain this in years to come, as I do not want to fail either.

I had a little taste of chocolate too and it was so yummy. Totally satisfied, don't need anymore. I'm not on a diet.

So many ways to handle our lives and each correct for our own-ness.
Today for us a meatless day and fasting day -- we are both over the "age" limit and with blood sugar I have to be careful to get my protein in.
So salmon patties and green beans for dinner. No desserts.

Sunday will be baked ham and my homemade potato salad. I never want more than a bit any way. Lots of family stuff coming up the next 6 weeks or so. Best course for me is pre planning as much as I can.

If I want a taste of something, I do take it. But usually its a bit disappointing. Far different in my "head" than in my mouth.

Happy "whatever holiday you celebrate" to all!

I also will have a small taste of the foods that I don't eat on a daily basis, baked macaroni, Easter bread which is a sweeter bread with icing and being Italian, my family had this every Easter and it's a tradition I'll probably have a piece of coconut egg because I can and I find a bite is quite enough.

I love the freedom of guilt over eating the whole contents of the Easter basket, plus the very copious amounts of holiday foods! I enjoy just having a good time with family or friends and having whatever I feel like, but in small amounts that are satisfying and then go back to what I know truly "fuels" my body and makes me feel the best emotionally and physically. Life is wonderful after surgery, it's "freeing"

Lisa, you're going to be surprised at how little of tempting foods you really choose after surgery and of course, practicing before surgery is a great idea too! The surgery does something to the mind/body connection and usually patients don't feel so well when they eat too much of "tempting" foods. I also find that foods that never tempted me before, like an apple with peanut butter, seems like such a treat now! You'll learn what you need/want to do and follow that path otherwise the consequences are not the most positive. I tell those folks who come back for revisions that this might be their last chance at having a tool that will work for them and to do whatever they have to the second/third time to be successful long-term; which is the ultimate goal!

    Continued success!

    I don't feel deprived actually.
I will take the occasional birthday cake or ice cream.
    Just a little bit.
But I don't buy it, I don't have it in my house.
it is not laying around calling my name.
    I am still a "grazer".
    That has not changed unfortunately.
If I were to have it on hand, I am afraid I would at some point go for it.

It is head hunger and this week I've given in to temptation. I recognize that it is a problem and I'm hoping that counseling will help me. I want to squash this problem forever. I don't ever want to be where I was.
