    Default I'm Doing This!

For years I have been overweight and I want to be happy with myself again. I've struggled with being a Foodie all of my life and need to reverse my thoughts on food. I finally have found a Surgeon and started the program. My insurance doesn't require a 6 month waiting list, so I am going through the checklist.
    Psychiatric Eval completed
    Nutritionist meeting completed
Met with Surgeon and discussed surgery
    Primary Dr. appointment and cleared
Heart Dr. wants a stress test, since I haven't had one in 3 years. Next Thursday.
    Support Meeting - tomorrow
    Blood work - tomorrow
    Endoscopy - 24th

After those are all done, I can call my Case Manager and get a Surgery Date Scheduled.

Looking forward to having it done and getting my new lease on life. Wish me luck!

    Hi, welcome here!
    I wish you luck!
How do you think getting a sleeve will help you to reverse your thoughts on food?
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

I am a self proclaimed foodie. It is a struggle! Luckily, I've turned my recipes into healthy versions of them but truth be told, I'm addicted to food. I am in counseling for it and many other issues in my life. The sleeve only restricts you for a short time. You have to get head healthy too where it pertains to food. You do that and you will be so successful! Good luck to you! You are going to have a date in no time!

The very best of luck to you!
I continue to be a foodie even five years after surgery. Because we entertain a good bit to folks who know nothing about my sleeve I find delicious recipes that fit the food plan, are made with real ingredients, and yet the folks I serve it to don't know it's "diet" food. Makes adherence interesting for me, not a foodie hardship.

I define "foodie" as someone who is into cooking gourmet type meals, not someone who eats at fast food restaurants or snarfs down junk food. You WILL be a foodie according to my definition, eating healthy, delicious meals. Our dinners are always a protein and veggie cooked by my husband who is a true gourmet cook. (He does all the shopping too). Last night it was fresh scallops and a salad, the night before salmon with dill sauce and asparagus. Then whenever he grills something he typically puts some extra chicken breasts (marinated in hot sauce) on so I have yummy lunches or snacks. When we go out my favorites are ceviche or ahi tuna. Favorite snack, raspberries. I swear I would not be a regular-sized person without him.

He has lost a lot of weight just by eating like this. Enough to have to give away all this clothes just like I did. Not to mention he exercises way more than me, and I do a lot.

    Congrats!

Best of luck as you embark on this amazing journey :-)

I didn’t ever define myself as a “foodie” until I realized that in changing my approach to cooking according to “the plan” made me a foodie. It’s fun to come up with healthy ways to eat healthy food without sacrificing taste. I love to cook and experimenting is fun.

    Good for you.
To me being a foodie means that you are interested in food. You like preparing and eating yummy food.
You can absolutely still be a "foodie". You will just be preparing smaller deliciously healthy meals.
My partner too has changed the way he eats since my surgery....not that he was ever overweight. We now only cook what we will eat and if there are left overs he doesn't finish them off he will take them for lunch the next day instead. I still cook some meals that are the same size but now freeze half so that we have another meal for later on. It's working out great for us.
There are so many great recipes and ideas available online for bariatric meals. All of which are suitable for everyone to eat. My partner doesn't know (or care) when I am preparing a "bariatric" recipe. To him it's just food and it tastes good. On the plus side I am trying out new dishes for us which is always fun.

Best of Luck to you DWentz! I'm happy you've the made the decision to move forward, it's an exciting time. I just recently did the same thing and my surgery is schedule for April 29th. You'll probably be right behind me. This is a wonderful place to get some answers to questions you won't find in all the books and guides to WLS that are out there. I read through all the forums and have found valuable, first hand information from people who have walked the walk. Cheers to healthy!

That is great that you do not have to do 6 months with your insurance. I did and the waiting was brutal. Sounds like you will be getting a date before you know it. Congrats!!
