Hi everyone I’m new to this. I have my surgery 4-22-19. Any tips or support will be greatly appreciated.
So exciting! My best advice is to keep a positive attitude and always keep the long picture in mind. Remember the pre-op diet and then about 6 weeks after when food slowly comes back into the picture are only temporary. That time goes so fast it's nothing. Know your weight will stall, typically around 3 weeks but different for everyone, so don't freak out.
Now research and learn all you can. Here's a great place, but I also loved all the youtube videos, watching people shrink before my eyes.
The sleeve was so much fun, and the only way in my 62 years of lifetime dieting I have ever found something to help me lose all my weight (QUICKLY!) and keep it off forever. The weight fell off with barely a thought while losing. Now that I'm maintaining after almost 5 years I have to be very mindful of my new lifestyle of healthy eating and exercise. We all hear about the people who gain their weight back, which would be totally possible by going back to your old habits. Not me, and not that it's easy either like the losing.
Best of luck to you! I have all the information about every step of the way if you want it, not sure what info they give you in Mexico. Be sure you are healthy; the few horror stories from your doctor seem to be when he did not take the time to review medical history, and totally botched things up. Every patient is different!
Congrats on your decision Joanna. I love my sleeve and it has changed my life. tHERE ARE LOTS OF THINGS TO GET USED TO BUT HANG AROUND ON THIS SITE AND READ THE POSTS AND ASK QUESTIONS AND YOU WILL GET HEAPS OF ADVICE. yOU CAN ALSO SEARCH AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE......WAHHHH YELLING!!! Sorry... yes so you can search at the top of the page and very best of luck with your surgery :-)
Take before pics in a bathing suit or bra and panties. Anything that is form fitting. Select a location that will be easy to always get the same distance. I had my family sit on the tub in my bathroom as I stood in front of closet door to keep it the same. Then after surgery take pics every 2 weeks. Also take measurements and weight at the same time. I kept mine in the notes so I could see my progress. Then make an album on your phone with all the pics. I would take one from the front, both sides, and the back. I love to see them from start to finish. I still look at them to be grateful of my journey.
My next suggestion is to enjoy the process. Enjoy the journey. Stay accountable. Check in often as it helps to have people who know what you are going through.
Hi
Don't buy bulk quantities of anything - your tastes may change after surgery and you don't want to be stuck with large stocks of things that you no longer like.
Also when you start having to buy new clothes don't buy too much and buy cheaply. You will be surprised how quickly you go down the sizes :-)
Positive attitude is the key as Sraebaer mentioned - and definitely take progress photos as you go along. I'm still amazed at how I look now compared to how I used to look....... And keep one item of clothing for comparison. I have a pair of jeans that used to be tight and now I can just about fit my entire body into one leg ;-)
Good luck and keep active on here - it's a great place to be.
Make sure you have a little pillow to tuck between your stomach and the seat belt of your car on the way home.
Good luck with your surgery!
