Default This Forum is Spot ON !!... had surgery on 03-28-19.

I lurked and read, decided to venture out and make a post. I spent time reading on this
    Forum daily.

I got my sleeve Thursday 03-28-19. I have referred mentally back to this forum several
times. This forum has provided me with so much information and a few friends along
    the way.

I’d love to bring some new revelation to this forum about my experience but I’m dealing
with the exact same recovery as many others have described.

I was prepared to feel a lot worse than I have. One friend told me I’d be hating life
day 1-3... I have been doing okay, hadn’t been past going.

I so planned on answering the private messages today and still maybe able to. But I
wanted to let everyone know I’m ok, I’m still reading, don’t feel like writing a lot.

Especially when I’m using this I-Phone. Thanks for all the well wishes !!.. take care

    Russ

I never felt horrible, never had complications, never even threw up, not once in 5 years! Hope you're on track to an easy recovery and ready for the time of your life! Everyone's advice to sleep a lot at first is spot on, totally helps with recovery. When you aren't sleeping, sip and walk a little. It is going to be FUN!

Congratulations Russ! I received my sleeve with lap band removal on Wednesday and unfortunately it has been pretty rough. I can’t seem to get enough fluids in and by the end of the day, I’m so nauseated, I lose whatever I take in. It takes me all day to get in my meds and just when I finish, it’s time to start all over with my night meds. I’ve tried hot tea, warm broth, cold water, nothing seems to help. Does anyone have any suggestions? I really don’t want to go back to the hospital for fluids but it’s very concerning.

It is super important that you get in your fluids; you already know you could end up back in the hospital. I was "self pay" and if I had to go back in the hospital that would have been self pay too. Have you tried the smallest sips possible every waking moment? Like basically just wet your mouth? I had my water bottle on a table by my recliner where I would rest and sip. Are you on medication for the nausea? That may help. The lap band removal probably complicated things. Feel better!!

Advice from srsebaer is spot on. I personally found hot and cold liquids problematic so tepid water was the easiest to sip. Only thing I would add is to skip the use of straws.

I was vomiting for 3 days post op. My surgeon told me that to keep fluids I needed my guts to "like "it...and to drink juice!!! so after three days of trying with water and countless shots of anti-nausea medication (vomiting blood is no fun), on the third day I was able to keep a little apple juice mixed with water. Of course no acid juice at that point...but a little sugar does help.

For months there is some type of water my stomach didn't like and I could only drink a few brands, and no tap water .
It's much better today, but right after the surgery our stomachs are sensitive...there is a very interesting meta study about smells after surgery, it came out last year...
I still can't really eat much of my fav cauliflower!! too bad it didn't affect in the same way my love for chocolate

I'm having a rough time as well but walking does help when I have energy. Since I'm not talking in food only liquids I'm very weak. I was suppose to go to my next phase which is thicker liquids but it's been really hard. I even got heart burn several times. So I'm trying to figure out what my tummy wants. Also, if I have a BM it does help with the pressure. I'm not sure if I'm full or it's gas it's so difficult. Also, all I do is drink, water, protein, jello, soup and I'm sick of it. So I ordered the unflavored protein powder to put in my coffee which I like to drink to see if I can get all of mine in. Also I've walked and hopefully will have a BM. I'm also going to take the acid reflux medicine everyday to help with digestion. I know this is a lot but my husband had the same 2 surgeries as you and he gives me tips. But unfortunately there's no set guideline what worked for him doesn't work for me. He was eating food in 2 weeks I can barely hold anything down. Last thing I called my doctor and asked for a different nausea medicine because I'm sick and I need help fast.

Russ so glad that all is going well for you.
    Long may it continue. :-)

Bellagirl - what about ice chips to help with the fluid intake to start with. This is what they gave me in hospital and said to let them melt in my mouth and just let the water trickle down my throat. as said above really important to stay hydrated. Sips little and often - ie all the time in the first few days. Hope you are felling better soon x
