Red face Hi!! New Member!! Need help!!

    Hey everybody,

I'm interested in the gastric sleeve surgery and I'm hoping for some of your help please!!!

I know there are several amazing stories but I'm worried about the long-term complications. Is there anyone out there that's had this surgery 10-15 years ago that I could talk to??

Thank you so much! Cannot wait to learn more

5 years, no problems. Were they even doing the sleeve 10-15 years ago?

Welcome, I know your looking for people 10-15yrs out. I had complications starting at 14mos post/op and came to a head 20mos post/op. Which lead to a stroke and a revision to a Bypass. I had multiple complications and nearly lost my life. I’m working hard to regain my life I achieved the first year. I still deal with a feeding tube and nausea & dry heaves. I’m starting to some better days so I’m hopeful this will resolve one day. If you have a history of acid reflux and Hiatal hernias, recieved a Nissan Wrap. The Sleeve is not recommended!!! There are some cases were people developed severe acid reflux that caused Barrettes esophagus and they also required a revision. So that’s a risk you take. Plenty of people without the history I mentioned and do fine with the Sleeve, Just like some people have a revision and have no complications but a lot do. Best to meet with a Bariatric doctor you trust and go over your medical history and help pick the safest one for you. I’m still a supporter of WLS but must review medical history with a qualified doctor that performs all types of wls. Wish you all the best and happy to answer any questions.

I remember a woman I went to church with who had either sleeve or bypass done atleast 20 years ago, but they were done open not lap then. As far as I know she is still doing fine. I had the Nissen fundoplication 3 years ago for acid reflux and the same surgeon did my sleeve this past Feb. The Nissen has to be taken down in order for the sleeve to be performed. It should be done with an experienced surgeon. I'm only 7 weeks out, but I haven't had any complications. Good luck to you on your journey.

I'm 8 years post-op and no problems, it's been great! My manager is 15 years post-op with a bypass and no problems associated with that either. It's funny but I went to a mani/pedi and the tech was 15 years post-op with a bypass and never had a problem either. Good luck with your decision!

The surgery is one of the newer ones but there are people around who are long term. My sister is almost 8 years post op and loves her life.
