    Default Post-Op Pain Managment

I am a bit over 48 hours post op and steel dealing with pain management (as expected). I am getting lots of walking in and if not walking, I'm standing or lying inclined in bed. Sitting upright is uncomfortable at best.

The pain that I have is a deep stabbing pain when I am transitioning up and down. Or basically, any time my abs are clenched. I have a naturally high pain tolerance and the pain is management sitting or lying, but off the charts when I get up and down. I still need assistance getting out of bed.

I'm curious if this is normal, or should I be trying to get some heavier meds.

I slept in a recliner that first week. It was a good position for me. May help.

I was never in any horrible amount of pain, you could ask your surgeon. It just hurt if I moved the wrong way or something. Or if I tried to climb into my high bed. I didn't take pain meds for more than a few days. We're all different.

    You'll feel better every day!

Thanks for the encouragement. The recliner is not a bad option, but it's the transition getting up or down that's hard. I rigged up some ropes on the bed posts that helped me up and down.

Getting up and down sucked for awhile. I propped myself up on pillow at the right angle to make it not so bad when I wasn’t able to have someone help me. It will get better. I think with that, the first 4 days were the worst. Then I had huge improvements everyday.

    Hi.
I had a bit of trouble getting in and out of bed. From the lying down to the sitting up position. Then someone told me to roll over onto my side, swing my legs over the side of the bed and then push my upper body up with my arm. It certainly helped as I wasn't putting too much strain on my stomach area. Do the reverse when getting back into bed.
I was never actually in pain, it was just discomfort - felt as though I had done 1000 sit ups ;-)
Make sure that you are taking any pain medication as often as you should be.
It will get better and better every day!
