    Question Hair Loss?

I'm just starting the journey of completing all pre-op requirements for my insurance. I'm just curious as to how much hair loss or thinning those who have had the surgery have endured. I feel like my is already thin d/t thyroid issues. I just don't want to have to wear wigs... I'm already taking a multi-vitamin. Help!

Hi! I bring no good news regarding hair loss. I tried the biotin, vitamins are a must after being sleeved so I was on those, I tried different ideas I saw on here and online...I think I might have a blog post with those ideas if you want to look at it.
It didn't help me. My only save was that I had long very thick hair.
I started loosing it (I think) around 4 months and continued to loose for a few months (I can't remember how many but I know by 9 months post OP my hair was like string)
I ended up with a Bob cut which I kept for the past 2 plus years. My hair did grow back during that time, the Bob cut helped make my hair appear thicker. I'm 4 years 3 months out and my hair isn't as thick as it was but its definitely in the normal range.
BUT not everyone is the same and I did hear a few say they didn't have hair loss.
But you know what? If it happens its worth it. Your best bet is to ask the nutritionist and doctor if they have any suggestions and see a hair stylist and ask them.
I wish you the best of luck!

Most of us had just slight hair loss that grew back quickly. Don't worry about something that may not happen to you. Not to mention it's nothing compared to living the rest of your life healthy and regular-sized.

The reason for hairloss are thinning as nothing to do with vitamins. I was told by a Bariatric nurse it has to do with how our bodies respond to WLS. Good news is most experience a little hairloss were some experience more. It’s temporary!!! I would gladly loose all my hair and start over to be a healthy sized person. I didn’t loose to much hair but lost almost all my eye lashes. After 4 mos there back and maybe longer. A good product to take if you have any hair loss is Natures Bounty Hair, nail & skin. My daughter has a teen straitened and colored her hair and eventually it broke off and she had to regrow her beautiful hair. She learned to love her natural hair color and curls it’s now long and thick.
I have no thyroid and take thyroid replacement. Has had no effect on this process except eventually I required less hormone once I loss all my weight. Good luck and best not to worry about something that may or may not happen.

You may or may not experience a temporary hair loss.
I did between months 3-6. Nothing major and no-one could tell except me - and that was only due to a few more loose hairs around the bathroom.

I had a good bit, in the bangs area and back...I cut it very short and enjoyed the wigs. But then again, I've had chemo a few times and already dealt with it. It has certainly grown back and was totally worth it!

So they say roughly 40% of WLS patients will experience hair loss. It can be from mild to severe. It doesn't last forever but it can be hard for some people emotionally. Most people can get by with some creative styling. Some people will just cut it short for a while. It is just hair. Some things that can help are good nutrition, vitamins, hydrations, and biotin. Biotin does not stop the hair loss but it can help with the regrowth. At the end of the day, it is a small price to pay for a healthier you.

Mine was enough to cut it very short (almost buzzed) and wear wigs for a while; it's come back fine. I've been diligent about the vitamins and protein, which is important to regeneration.

FYI, I've lost my hair 3 times with chemo, and as my kids said, have a nice shaped bald head, lol. So maybe it wasn't so hard. But I was a little scared it might never come back. So feeling like that is totally normal!

I didn't have any hair loss; however, like Tamera, because of the sleeve, my thyroid meds had to be reduced.
