Issue on the massage is you shouldn't lay on your stomach it'll hurt. Same with whale watching. Pitch of the boat can tear stuff loose and being on a boat you'll be 30min-1hr from emergency care and it won't be U.S. level of care. Even if nothing tears it'll hurt like hell. Speed humps were tough for me the first month as were kids sitting in my lap leaning against my stomach. TBH whale watching at home in Kona is better than Mexico anyway.

Actually I don't think it would be possible to lay flat on your stomach. I liked my recliner because I wasn't in a flat position. It would be like stretching everything out - ouch!

You are so cute Kona Girl! I would totally be about the massages and facial too! But yeah to be honest I don't think you will feel like it. I took about 6 weeks to recover after my surgery and I was really fit and running half marathons before it! I think we don't really know what it will be like until we have it though. I am just pleased you were so excited about the massage and facials lol. Maybe you will manage just a facial because you will be laying on your back... I think I would have managed that :-)
Lots of luck for your surgery. Exciting :-)

I am purchasing compression socks this weekend and will take all of the advice to heart and continue to read all i can on recovery. Not gonna lie....I am sooooooo hoping that I will feel good enough for just a facial!!!!!! Well, maybe a shoulder massage too.....Don't worry, my husband will be my voice of reason if I get a little too confident! Thanks y'all! I'll check back in after surgery and let ya know if I can claim victory or defeat!!

As to the shoulder massage: ask your surgeon to "deflate" you after she/he is done with the surgery.
it is very simple for them to let all the CO2 gas out and it will safe you a lot of discomfort.
Maybe even enough to get that shoulder massage!

I would think if you feel good and don't have to lie on your stomach you will be fine. Just listen to your body. All I wanted to do was sleep.

I would have a long flight home to Georgia as well. Any other advice?

    Hey y'all,
I wanted to check back and give you an update. Surgery was afternoon of May 1 and I slept the next 32 hours. I am super sensitive to anesthesia or anything that comes with a "may cause drowsiness" disclaimer. on Friday morning we went to the hotel feeling rested but with a terrible headache. By Saturday afternoon my headache finally subsided and i felt great so I called the hotel spa to book my facial and NO OPENINGS and CLOSED ON SUNDAY! Sunday we went to the outdoor mall near the hotel and I couldn't convince my husband at all to get a pedicure with me. So unfortunately my quest for cheap pampering was not successful. I had no pain (other than headache) but sure had to take many breaks while walking around. I still tell my husband I think i could have done a whale tour on Sunday but he thinks I'm just being stubborn and full of it!

Soooooo....tomorrow I book myself a facial - won't be cheap but it will be worth it!

Hi KonaGirl - I was just thinking about you! I was looking at the list of May sleevers and realized your surgery date had passed. Glad to hear you are doing so well! And you really had NO pain?? Dear lord, please let that be my experience. I am 15 days away from surgery and so afraid of being side-lined for weeks. I picture being racked with pain, nausea, vomiting, bloating, ugh. Please, keep posting on your experience and again, so glad it is going well!!

    Stay positive Jess!
No reason at all to picture that situation.
Picture yourself up and about the day after.
Picture yourself taking walks, sipping your fluids, napping when you need to.
Ask the surgeon to deflate your tummy, she/he can do that very easily and it saves you discomfort from the gas.
    You will be fine!

I know it stinks to not have been able to take advantage of the cheap pampering but glad to hear your surgery went well.

So glad that all went well. Please keep us posted on your success.

Jess, I didn't have any pain or nausea. I know that different people react differently so fingers crossed all will be good for you too. I took the pain relief offered in the hospital but once home I didn't need anything. I certainly knew that I had had surgery - felt like I had done 100 sit ups (like I know what that would feel like lol! ;-)) But no pain as such.

You will be fine - take it easy the first week, sleep, walk as often and as far as you feel comfortable doing, and just go with the flow. If you have pain meds and need/want them then please take them. All will be well.

  23. Said thanks:
