    Default Pouch Reset

    Good Afternoon,
I was sleeved on 10/2/17 and lost a significant amount of weight quickly in the first six months, 75 pounds. Unfortunately then I stalled, at six months post op, and even gained some weight back. I decided to meet with my surgeon, and she suggested trying a pouch reset. I started this morning, and I am hoping I can do it. Has anyone tried this, and was it helpful?

I didn't for myself. However I recalled a few saying that it does work.

    "Pouch reset" is b.s.
There is nothing wrong with your sleeve, unless the surgeon made it too wide.
And in that case there is nothing you can do about it.
But your restriction is still there.
And also the "mind reset" does not work in a couple of days, it take months to form new habits.

So, take out your binder from the hospital and go back to the basics.
Protein first, veggies next, healthy carbs if room.
    Drink your water.
    Exercise.
Just get to work and do it.
I never stopped eating by the rules that were given to me and I never gained.

    You can do it!
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

    What Dutch said.
The whole "pouch reset" theory is completely false. If your pouch has over stretched, which IS possible, it will never go back to its original size.

You mostly likely do however have very good restriction with your sleeve still, so my guess is you still feel quite full after a small amount of food.
Like Dutch said, just go back to the basics for a few weeks and you will definitely see results again.

Look at Dr. Vuong (a Bariatric surgeon) on youtube he talks about it alot.

I agree with everyone, it won't change anything. Pretty much a joke. But if won't hurt anything if you want to do it. My nutritionist says if you want to do it call it a "mind reset.'

Thank you. I took my binder out last night and started reviewing all the recommendations and rules post op. It was helpful. And I agree, I think it is a mind reset not pouch reset, that I need. I appreciate all your thoughts and suggestions.

Gaining weight at six months post-op?? something is wrong here. I was a very slow loser, but here is what stats say : most people lose weight until about 9 months post whatever they eat. To continue to lose after, it's all about nutrition and exercise.

What did your surgeon say when you gained weight at six months out? did you have adequate blood test at that time ?(like for ex to make sure your thyroid is ok).

Losing weight is not all about calories in and out. I can be in a stall for 2 months and be eating under my BMR.
But I know what cause me a gain, for me it's meds (cortisone is the worth). What about your meds?

But the most important, no matter what, is to stay focused and keep up the good work, even if you don't see the result on the scale. Because if you start to eat the wrong food it won't help.

Guideline is simple, take your vitamins, eat your protein first, then veggies, then a little carb. Plenty of water in between meals.

You can do it!! I did lose weight during my Second year!!
    Keep us posted!

    Take care

I hadn’t thought about my medications, until you mentioned it......I restarted my Methotrexate around the same time the weight loss stalled! Ugh! I really hope there is no correlation, because the MTX manages my rheumatoid arthritis.

Welcome into my world (very sorry about it!)

Figure one is clear...it does have an impact on your weight

My friend prednisone is much worth (and unfortunatly I know that too well) but still...it could be the reason!

Thank you for the response, apparently there is a correlation between my weight gain and the MTX. Just another way Rheumatoid is affecting my life....I refuse to give up though, I have come this far, and I am determined to reach my goals. I hope you are able to stop the prednisone soon too..... together with each other's support we can do this!

So we do not have a pouch like gastric bypass does but......I believe that the pouch reset can reset your mind and get you back to eating right. Another thing is that whenever you overeat your body wants more the next time. If you keep getting more food and keep overeating it is harder to eat less. So, the reset can help you mentally stop the overeating process and start eating the right way again. But that is just my two cents.
